Unfortunatly the smoke is not 100% PDN but still rendered in PDN i used brushes.
And coloured it(to make it not white, grey or black) and then used the conditional hue/saturation on it.
EDIT: Also to give it a glow i first(before colouring) duplicated the layer and used feather on true mode on it and then coloured the lower smoke layer.
I learned it from a tutorial.

That choppy effect on the star is partially caused by feather, quite weird...
EDIT2:
And because of the black background you are unable to see the outline around the star.
