I would start by following this tutorial as it teaches you the basics of these kinds of signatures. Then you can easily use the techniques to make an avatar. I found the tutorial to be a little hard to understand at times but try to finish the tutorial even though you don't understand a step or two.

I finally found your gallery These pictures are okay but they're mostly random effects. Try to have a set aim before making a picture. I know fooling around with Shape3d can be fun but maybe you should do other stuff as well. I recommend you read through a lot of tutorials. The more the better. Also, you may want to use some stocks or renders in your picture. Learn all the features of Paint.net and the plugins your using and try a lot of different stuff. Keep it up

I also combined some textures to get the background for Echogreen's sig, plus a little smudging and other stuff I can't remember. For the metal textures I used two of these (don't remember which one's.)

Unfortunately? It looks great! I think I can see how you made it. Draw filled squares and lines of various brightness and fiddle with blending modes, right?
