creating a 'fade' effect (example inside)

In photo shop you can add layer styles to modify shapes you've created. This particular effect makes it go from:

I want to this in PDN, before i did it by creating a one pixel line then dragging a gradient over it from either end. it worked but didnt look quite as good, and took a while.

Any one know how to do this? is ther a plugin i should be looking at?

You could also try the Gradient plugin (in Alpha only mode).

Or just use a transparent gradient... without downloading a plugin... my work here is done.
