Firestorm
Hi there nice to meet you all i am a complete beginner so be gentle with me i am not familiar with all the functions yet. I have a picture of a pint of beer i want to use but it has a white background that i would like to get rid of. I have found some posts on deleting backgrounds but its a bit confusing for me. I have used that magic wand thingy but i cannot manage to get it just around the object, it looks all messy and goes over the object if that makes sense. Would appreciate some easy to follow advice, thank you.
Curmudgeon
welcome Firestorm. A couple things to do: First, if you read the rules, your post topic breaks one of the rules and makes the hair on the back of the moderator's necks stand on end. To answer your question about cutting out the beer, please refer to this topic found in the tutorials section. http://paintdotnet.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=4841

Crazy Man Dan
When Curmudgeon pointed out that you had broken one of The Rules with your thread title, that was a clue to read The Rules and edit your title to fix it. I've edited it for you this time, because you're new and I'm a nice guy, but be warned that in the future, threads with nondescript titles will be closed. Curmudgeon
If you keep trying the tutorial from the link I gave you earlier, and read the problems they had in the tutorial and the solution you should be able to do it. I followed the same instructions and got this result:
Deborah
Re: the checkered background: The checkered backgorund indicates a transparent area. If you put the pint image in a new layer over a background, the background will show through wherever the checkered area was.
Myrddin
I followed the same instructions and got this result: And for the aliased edges, you can use the plugins Anti-alias, Basic Anti-alias or Feather to soften it up.You can scan through the Plugins Forum or use Search to find them. Curmudgeon
I tried that, but the original photo was a small jpeg and low quality Main thing I wanted to show was that the cutout tutorial does work...just have to outline around the head on the beer...sounds like he might've oulined across the top of the glass so the head of the beer poofed too
Myrddin
I tried that, but the original photo was a small jpeg and low quality Perhaps an alpha mask would have been better suited... Curmudgeon
I tried that, but the original photo was a small jpeg and low quality Perhaps an alpha mask would have been better suited... I thought of that too, but: A) it takes a lot longer to do properly to create the mask, and I had already pointed them to the cutout tutorial
