PAINT.NET for comics

I have a friend that is writing/designing comics for publication. "Traditional" comic images etc.

Is PAINT.NET what he can use to accomplish this? They say "the pros use Photoshop" -- but $650?

Is PAINT a sound alternative? Ant advice here would be greatly appreciated.

if you go to a store that sells software you can find photoshop 6 for $150. But Paint.Net is very good for comics, just need a drawing pad!

Drawing pad?

I'm TOTALLY dumb on this...

I can understand (I think) how the drawing pad would help... but wouldn't you want or need that no matter what software you're using?

It's pretty easy to create comics in PDN, infact I'm busy creating one myself.
