Satellite Paint.net Folders (solved)

First off, long time user, first time pos(t)er...

Just writing yall to say "thanks" for the awesome Photoshop replacement program.

 

Also, 3.5.10 can have multiple program folders (once "officially" installed).

In each program, the effects folder contents only apply to that folder's exe.

 

What that means is you can have different "versions" of Paint.net on your computer, for instance

one for comic book art, another for graphics editing, another for ???...each with their own effects

(so as not to "crowd the mind" with effects not used for a particular task).

 

It's pretty neat.

 

Just remember that Paint.net HAS TO BE officially installed (tho not in Program Files if you don't

want). If you uninstall, then try to use a "satellite" folder, you'll get the "OPP language" error.

 

Personally, too bad there's not an official "portable" version of the program...other than that one

about some pen drive software suite or something (like having to install portable apps software or

something...I just didn't get it...) to make such things easier. Also, there's some unofficial

portable versions floating around. I got one that worked but it had this annoying pop-up advert

for their blog...probably the way you eventually have to look at Mastercard adverts when you

run free programs or somethin...

 

Well, still pretty cool (if you remember the late 1990s with SO MANY freakin' Photoshop plugins

installed to look through). Ha ha.

That's correct.  You can install multiple versions due to the clever way Rick has managed the installer.

 

Install 3.5.10

Open up Program Files in Explorer

Select "Paint.NET"

Ctrl+C (copy)

Ctrl+V (paste)

Rename "Paint.NET - Copy" to "Paint.NET 3.5.10"

 

 

Then just install another version.

 

I'm not sure that I'd run simultaneous versions of the exactly the same app.  You want to have a pretty good reason for installing them side-by-side   Different effects?  Dunno if that does it for me.
