Default save file type - setting?

When saving my created pictures i mostly choose JPEG save format, but the default type is PNG, Is there some setting to set the default to JPEG instead of PNG to avoid clicking on the choosing the desired file type under dropdown "Save as type" each time?

There is no way to set JPEG as default Save type.

There is this work-around, which may or might not be worth the effort.

Create a blank image, save as .jpg.

Set its Properties to Read Only.

Make a Paint.NET desktop shortcut with its

Target info set to open Paint.NET with that file loaded.

If you open every new file with that shortcut and do Save As...

with only one layer, then it will save as .jpg as default.

I know i did, messing a bit with some C# programming and changing the filter from Paint.NET on the fly (now don't go screaming that i did some illegality ).

If you're interested, then you can find it here, compiled for both 32 and 64 bit version. They were only tested for windows 7 64 bit, will test on XP and win7 32 bit some other time.

Files should be virus free, but don't trust me on that, so make sure to scan them.

for me it always saves at .pdn and it sucks because i cant upload it to websites (the image) what should i do? Now i dont know that much about paint.

PDN is specific to paint.net which keeps your layers intact so that you can modify it later with those same layers. Think of it as a sort of project file.

What you'll need to do is save it in an acceptable format for those sites (png is default as it is considered lossless and thus a better overall image).

EDIT:

These defaults are established to provide the optimal output for all users, even for those who are essentially the uneducated user. As a matter of fact, even I used to always save as jpg until I learned of this advantage. Now I save almost exclusively in both formats.
