Layers?

Just recently d/l Paint and I understand that ’layers’ is one of the most important parts of Paint, I have tried to find out what “layers” can do and how to use them but am still in the dark, I thought that they were separate frames or pics that could be placed over each other as say a layer of text superimpose over a pic layer, all I have managed so far is to create a montage of pics of adjustable sizes?

I would also recommend you take a look at this tutorial, as it helps to familiarize you with many of the main features of Paint.NET (the tools, layers, blending modes, etc.)

That was the first place that I tried, but could not find what I wanted, I am making progress now and have successfully blended a few layers, practice, practice eh
