bobross Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 The only thing I can find about this are these posts from many years ago, where the answer is "just use a mouse". What I want is to simply be able to change the active layer by a shortcut. I am using a pen tablet and I need to switch quickly between layers, and being able to keep my pen still will help my workflow greatly. Shortcuts are for actions that are done very often, and changing layers is something that users do very often. There are shortcuts for panning the screen even if you can just click on the scroll bar. There are shortcuts for zooming in even if you can just click on the slider on the bottom right. There are shortcuts for all these layer commands, but not for the one that people actually use most often. It seems like a very fundamental thing to have, so it's very frustrating that it isn't a thing. It's not like adding more shortcuts has any negative benefits, as it would benefit those that want it, and others wouldn't notice it. If this is not a feature, is there a plugin that lets me create custom shortcuts? In fact, is there something that lets me add shortcuts for more things? Like horizontal flipping and such. Quote
Rick Brewster Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 Yeah I mean I agree. It just hasn't been done yet. Like maybe Ctrl+Alt+Up/Down? But, need room for Move Layer Up/Down shortcuts as well. Ctrl+Alt+Up/Down makes me think Move Layer for some reason. Quote The Paint.NET Blog: https://blog.getpaint.net/ Donations are always appreciated! https://www.getpaint.net/donate.html

After all, you're Controlling and Shifting the layer's position? Ctrl+Alt+up/down makes me think you're switching to an alternate layer. Rick Brewster Posted May 18, 2019 Posted May 18, 2019 I was thinking Alt+Shift actually, if that even works. Ctrl and Shift are already used for other things that can end up being pressed around the same time, too easy to get them all mixed up.
