Here's a hint though: Paint.net v4.x doesn't fully work in Wine yet; mostly due to Wine's incomplete Direct2D implementation. Paint.net v3.5.11 works fine in Wine. You can use that. If you figure out how to run a WPF app in WINE, then those tricks may help you to get Paint.NET to work. (Paint.NET uses WPF for data binding stuff, but never for UI.)
