  1. That must've been a web search and not using the search function here in the forums as doing so provides these (and more) simply using the keyword "macro":

    http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n264/CantaLibra/macrosearch.png

At any rate, Rick has indicated that it doesn't have macros (in the thread "Automating Paint.net?"), and as far as I am aware he doesn't plan on providing it. That having been said, there are various (freeware) macro recorders out there for use in Windows, though I've personally have not used them, so I cannot recommend anything specifically (though Freelabs Macro Recorder seems to stand out using Bing search for "Freeware Windows Macro Recorder").

    Hi

i searched in the forum and did see

    Automating Paint.NET?

    in Paint.NET Discussion & Questions

it was the place i saw the word macro in a related issue

but i didn't see that the question/content were like mine. and there was no last answer to it.

anyway i found " pyrochild scriptlab" plugin and it works well for what i wanted.

about the free macros for windows, i use then too , but they are not that good since most of them need you to have the window in the same place all the time and use the short cuts keys which are not for everything.but as we say

a work around is a work around that goes around.

so having paint.net do the macros you are not a subject to 3rd party workarounds.

also macros are used in 90% of the software we have today, so its not a wild out request ;-)

but I can only ask for it :-)

and consider the great work Rick is doing i guess his priorities are other then mine ;-)

    maybe in 4.5 ...

  2. OK

I found a plugin that does all the plugins effects I need in one script

under pyrochild scriptlab that i can load and save :-)

I still need a way to setup the settings of paint.net ie.

maybe an option to save all "current" settings to a file

and then just upload it when needed. ??

    Avi

    p.s.

maybe a macro for some few menu selects and mouse moves.

  3. HI

Since I work with many pictures , i have many settings or default program & plugins settings / effects / commands / layer setup etc..

to setup after i load the picture and before i start working on a picture or the design.

and i have to do this manually each time for every picture.

I'm also working on a sound and video applications and they have MACROS or SCRIPTING (or both) that help me

with one or two clicks setup all the needed setting before i start.

Can something like this be implemented into paint.net ?

    for example .

I'm working on a project with a sea side settings for the pictures.

so i need to setup the software/plugins to reflect that scene.

when i want to change to a new scene and new picture

I must setup all from scratch.

can the option to record a macro/mouse movement or write a script or xml

    be added to Paint.NET?

    thank you

    Avi

    p.s.

the program already collects and shows all the history to use with undo, ,

    p.s.2

last i saw the word macro in the forum was 2006.

    p.s.3

i have few work rounds like changing the picture on an already setup picture and save as new picture

thus saving most of the setup again.

but it does not work if i need to work on a different scene :-)

  4. Hi

Well, working with other type of software (not for graphics) , they had a good idea that worked.

instead of doing "copy of copy of ..." etc..

they did something smarter :-) .

since each layer has its own FIXED ID number , not the name numbering that

can be changed by the user.

they used it as the base for the numbering and adding a counter to the words "copy of"

for example "copy4 of layer 17" or "copy10 of night sky"

saving the need for multiple "copy of".

i think that using this system of count, can be used here, even as a simple scan of all the layers names

if words "copy of " is not found for this layer then it would be added. if one is found then the next index count number

    would be used.

of course if the user changed the name then all is well anyway and no "copy of " would be found, thus counting would start again.

I always give names to my layers, due to the way and projects i do.

but sometime , when you need to make a number of copies fast and don't need a real name

then it takes long time to duplicate and add an index manually :-(

please look into it, it shouldn't be that hard to implement, but it would help many/most of the people and allow faster

work without manual indexing or renaming for those who don't need real names for layers.

    thank you

    Avi

    p.s.

"Ctrl+click on Move Layer Up/Down will move it to the top/bottom in 4.0. Drag-and-drop reordering is already implemented. There will be no further changes for 4.0."

would it be possible to use the " Drag-and-drop reordering" with a number of selected layers and not just one layer at the time?

  5. Hi

I was wondering if there might be a way to add the option to save a selection to the disk ?

when i work i create many selections with complicated shapes and areas.

since i need to use them more then once i was wondering if a feature for saving only

the selection can be implemented ?

this would enable me to load the selections to new projects and use them there

making the same "print" every time :-)

(my work around for this is saving a B/W picture of the shape then uploading it

every time i need it , then copy and paste to a new layer

in the new project then selecting the shape area then flatting the image with the selection and deleting the internal area or the invert )

    its long but works.

it would be great if you can add "File Open into a NEW layer", this would save

the need for part of my work around.

i would then just load the save to the new layer and use it directly :-)

    * This would be a great new feature anyway "File Open To a New layer" ... :-)

    thank you

    Avi

    p.s.

I saw this the save/load selection feature the other day in a photoshop presentation and was shocked that it's real :-)

So if such feature can be added to paint.net even in version 4.0 it would be great

    and time saving too.

    p.s.2

If anyone has a better work around for this , i would be happy to know about it :-)

  6. As a work around for now, you can Cut >>>Add a New Layer where you want it >>>Paste into that layer (then delete the blank layer you've cut from)

Not ideal but I work with upto and + a 100 layers sometimes and it beats moving layers s**t loads of times. Plus you soon get used to it ...

yes this is a work around i'm using too, but its good only for projects with not allot of details.

but many of my photos and designs have lots of layers with only few items on each layer.

so when i need to make a design change,or even just to see how it would look like (then undo it all) ,

it takes very long time to move all the layers needed and sometime you make mistakes etc...

so even with the work around, its a must to have at least a small button to move the layer to the TOP or BOTTOM.

or +5 UP and -5 DOWN layers buttons :-)

    thank you

    Avi

  7. Click and drag reordering will arrive (Rick said) in paint.net v4

    Hi

    thank you for the answer.

however can something "simple" like asked (right click and select or a very simple drop down menu ) ,

can be implemented sooner then V4 ? (without the fancy drag& drop )

if not at least just the option to "move a layer to TOP or BOTTOM" be implemented sooner then that ?

i think it would help many :-)

    thank you

    Avi

  8. Hello

I'm working with MANY layers in any given project,

and I want/need to move layers between them many times.

using the up/down arrows to move the layer up/down is very slow and

takes a long time to get from bottom layers to top/upper layers and the opposite :-(

So from my point of view, the LAYERS window is missing some key features:

    1. buttons that moves a layer directly to the TOP or BOTTOM layers no matter on which layer you are.

    2. the option to move the layer to a direct layer.number. maybe a drop down selection of layer numbers.

or from a mouse right click on a layer in the layer window (move layer to -> )

    3. the option to move a number of selected layers to a new place. using the above.

adding those options would make my and i guess others life very easy working with lots of layers.

if those features are already in the program i wish some one would tell me how to use then since

    i haven't seen those options.

    thank you

    Avi
