  1. Good heavens! What has the world come to!? Just click a few <family friendly forum> times and you're done!

Really, though, unless English is not your native language, you are clearly not reading Rick's responses. All you saw was the word "no" when the message was "wait." Rick has seen your request, but it is low on his list of priorities at the moment. Wondering what could be higher? Paint.net v4.0. It takes time and effort to program, so give him time, and he'll provide the effort. Whether or not he fulfills your request is up to him, so be nice! ;)

    Hi

English is not my native language. sorry if i'm not that clear in my writing, i'm trying my best.

I read what Rick said , and i understood he didn't say NO but WAIT !

and i respect him for it too !!!

i didn't say anything about him not doing what i asked and i never meant anything bad.

All i wrote is that i have tried to implement what he said about the shortcut keys,

but at my age i can't remember all those keys like the young kids today ;-)

    that's all nothing more.

I also had some fun in making my idea into a picture, what is wrong with an old man having fun?.

I know he has his list of priorities that is why i wrote

"please rethink let me know, i guess if not in 4.0 maybe in 4.X ."

i guess the word rethink is not in place, again my not so good English.

but I didn't ment to push him for my Idea's.

I'm sure as i always said before , Rick does great job! and Paint.Net is GREAT !

    Avi

  2. Relocate all of them. Find and return those you actually miss. Some are usefully named, some not so.

What I do is have a sub folder in the Effects folder. I call this folder "'temp" (original huh?). Any plugin I'm not using regularly rarely gets flung in there.

    Thanks Ego

i have done it , its not so comfortable since i need to close Paint.Net to load/unload a plugin.

which is time consuming. but i guess that's how workarounds work.

    Rick

since the work on plugins would be cut from 4.0 and redone in 4.x

here is a small simple work around for my request. (based on Ego answer to me)

under the directory effects, there would be a directory called "Favorites"

all plugins that would be placed there , would be shown under a "Favorites"

    sub menu.

this way you would not need to add code to deal with the need to mark plugins or any other

way to say this plugin is Favorite.

just read the plugins from directory called "Favorites" too, and place the names under the sub menu.

    thank you

    Avi

  3. "No" kinda means "not now, certainly won't make the cut for 4.0, I don't have the energy to type up a huge response because I've got too much other stuff I'm trying to juggle" but it doesn't mean "never, and your idea is no good."

At some point there are things that just have to be done in order to improve plugin management, and they will be done. Not for 4.0, but hopefully soon afterward. Your best bets right now are 1) remove plugins you aren't using to reduce clutter (easier said than done, I understand) and 2) learn the keyboard commands to make getting to things quicker. For instance, Alt+C pops open the Effects menu. From there, you can use the first letter of a submenu, and then the first letter of the effect. If it's the only effect with that first letter it'll open right away, otherwise press the letter multiple times.

So if you want Effects -> Blurs -> Gaussian Blur, then the keyboard chord Alt+C, B, G should do it. If there's something else in there that starts with G then you can memorize the number of times to press G before Enter.

It's not perfect by any means but it is certainly faster than the mouse, and it's something you can use right away.

    Hi Rick

i have tried your short cut keys but it takes more then few clicks, there are sub menus and you need to use the arrows

to get in there and remember there how many letters to click.

Sorry Rick , i tried and failed to remember all those key clicks, at my age i can barely remember the normal short keys.

I need to remember Ctrl + c + 5xA + arrow + 2 xP + enter. just to get to "Pencil Sketch" again.

what you asked me to do is just too much :-(

i have included a picture with my simple request, how it would look like if you decide to implement it and save

me, my brain and i guess others like me all those clicks ;-)

please rethink let me know, i guess if not in 4.0 maybe in 4.X .

    Thank you

    Avi

  4. Hi Rick

thank you for the answer :-)

I don't agree with what you wrote

" it doesn't make any sense and like pdnnoob says, you're using existing features incorrectly in the first place"

I think it does make sense, and I think that the existing features are great and using them , makes my

    workarounds work.

I think that paint.net does things that other $oftware$ don't, and you are doing a great job.

I have read again all that was written in this topic and i think that i didn't give a good explanation

to my request and didn't show clearly why i asked for it and what good it would do.

thank you ALL for your answers and mainly Rick for not throwing the keyboard at me ;-)

I'm a programmer too and kind of think like you when i'm being asked to add things

    to my programs .

i'll put this subject to rest, at least until i'll have a good example ready to share.

    Avi

    p.s.

Rick I just figured yesterday what is your avatar and where it's from. :-)

you don't seem to be such a horrible Dr. ;-)

  5. No.

    Hi Rick

    thank you for you answer

but can you give me a simpler solution to the issue i asked?

i need to run "THE SAME" effect/plugin a number of times on the image

each time with a small change in the effect/plugin setup.

(like add more noise or more blur etc..)

why do you make me/us reselect the that plugin/effect each time again

    using the menus/sub menus ?

it does not make sense to me?

if you already know the last effect/plugin i used and add "Repeat - (last effect/plugin)" to the menu

    automatically.

then why not add the option to open the last effect/plugin setup window and allow to make changes

    to the setup ?

can you please think of it again ?

    thank you

    Avi

    p.s.

even if i don't have plugins at all , the effect list is long enough to reselect the effect again

and again just to change the setup.

  6. Hi Rick

All of us have our favorite plugins/effects we use most of the time.

but each time we want to use our favorite plugins/effects

we must reach them after menus of 100 more we barely use.

    can you add

    1. under the effects menu a sub menu called "Favorites"

    2. the option to mark a plugin/effect as "favorite"

doing so it would make its name show up in the Favorites sub menu

saving the need to go thru all the other menus/sub menus of

    plugins or effects.

    ---

you can also just create under the effects menu a sub menu called "Favorites"

and allow us a way to move/add/ drag/drop our Favorite plugins/effects there.

    thank you

    Avi

    p.s.

can you also add this option the "Adjusments" menu too?

  7. Hi Rick

currently in the effects menu you have "repeat - (name of last effect) "

can you please add "reopen - (name of last effect)"

this would open the settings window of the last effect/plugin used.

today we must go thru all the effects to reopen the last effect used.

this would greatly improve the speed of working with effects.

    thank you

    Avi

    p.s.

can you also add both options the "Adjusments" menu too?

  8. Not gonna happen.

Hi Rick , i don't want to sound rude !

but can i ask why not ?

it's a very cool feature to have ?

also if i quote what you wrote me in a different topic

"Being able to save/load or copy/paste just the selection outline is also something I've thought would be useful.

This probably won't make it in for 4.0. However, a lot of the groundwork is being laid which would/will make this fairly simple to do in a subsequent release.

In memory, a selection is essentially equivalent to a WPF GeometryGroup, which can easily be serialized and deserialized. (in fact, it may become a GeometryGroup eventually -- not the actual WPF version, but a custom implementation that has the same properties and type names (not the same namespaces) and which is close to being "XAML compatible" with WPF's version)

    "

means that you can save the selection in memory , so it can be assigned to a layer ?

any way if you would implement the topic i took this quote from , maybe it would

solve as a workaround this problem too ;-)

    thank you

    Avi

  9. Hi All

sorry Rick if my answer was not short again, I hope the next few lines would be short and better.

    -- > Very short for Rick :-)

today when working with a number of pictures open in paint.net, you can make selections on each of them.

and those selections are PER IMAGES and STAY intact when you switch between the images.

what i asked for is to apply this function to layers in an image. ie when selecting something on a layer

the selection would STAY on that layer even when i select something else on a different layer.

just like they are different images that are open in paint.net.

    -->

End of short for Rick :-)

to all other great people here :-)

I think that everything said about what i asked for is out of focus or blared .

you all say things that are around the issue but not really solving or answering my request.

and you all talk about the workarounds that i already know about.

If what i wrote now for Rick would not explain what i'm talking about.

i would try to show it in pictures and i hope that it would explain it more.

but It would take me some time to get the screen shots ready due to time limits i have.

thank you all for answering this post .

    Avi

    p.s.

again there are "workarounds" for what i asked, even in my answer to Rick, but it would be much simpler to

solve them with my feature request.

    p.s.2

I think that Paint.Net is in a league and a higher class of its own, and there is no need to talk about other

    $oftware$ here ;-)

  10. I think it's too much to read through

    Hi Rick

Here is the short version for you :-)

    for example :

in the 1st layer i need to select a rectangle shape selection, on a different layer with another image

i'm selecting all red color pixels to work on and on the 3rd layer i need to select two circles .

as you can see i work on different images on different layers, i select a different selection areas from each image

    to copy/add effect etc...

AND each time i must re select again and again the selection areas i want to use,

every/each time i switch the active layer.

please add the option to KEEP the selections per layer. so when i change my active layer,

automatically that layer selection become the active selection.

without the need for us to re select it again.

    thank you

    Avi.

    ps.

you can replace the I with "we" since i think everyone would like this :-)

  11. Why might you need a specially shaped selection saved for each layer? I haven't come across such a need yet, so I'm merely curious...

You seem to have the workaround figured out, so there's not much more to say except that I hope Rick replies soon. I highly doubt it will be added to v4.0, but he might consider adding the feature in a later version.

Hi its not just me who uses different selections all the time, its everyone.

each time you want to select a part of an images , we use the selection tools.

to select that uniqe part of the image and colors we want.

i call this selection by the name "shape"

since not all images are the same and we use many images , we all use different shapes

    of selections .

    for example.

    i have 4 layers.

each has faces different in them.

and i\m working on a 5 and 6 layers then are made from parts of the faces

from layer 1-4. each time i need to select a different part of image for a diferent

image to move and create an effect from it.

in layer 1 i select the eye area in a unique shape.

in layer 2 i select the ears area in a unique shape

in layer 3 i select the nose area in a unique shape

in layer 4 i select the mouth area in a unique shape.

as you can see each selection is different in its size shape and place.

and each time i need to reselect that unique shape in each layer to

continue working and creating the effects i need.

my work around is only a workaround and its not for an image

    with many layers.

so if i had the feature i asked for then i would of made those selections once per layer

then just select the layer and the unique selection would be there without the need to reselect it.

making life easy and simple for us.

as you can see this is just a small example.

Rick what do you think ?

    Avi

  12. Quite possibly I don't quite understand what your request is, I'm not always the brightest tool in the box

... but if I want to move various objects on various layers into different positions inside an image I use the paneling plug-in. Just click on a layer and press Ctrl-F. One click shopping once you've got the settings you want in Paneling. I very rarely use the move selection tool anymore

... but as I say, quite possibly I've misunderstood and wasted both our time. Yours for reading it and mine for typing it :evillaugh:

its not what i'm talking about.

    Avi

  13. Hi

I'm working on many layers with different images on each of them.

today when i (any one else) needs to move part of the image

in a layer , we go to the selection tool, select the needed area

    and move the selection.

However if we need to move a number of objects in different layers each with a different

    selection shape ,

then we must re select that SAME selection shape each time

    we access that layer.

My request is to have the option for "Selection Per Layer" !

    meaning that if i made a selection SHAPE1 on layer 1 ,

then when i switch/move to a new layer i would get the option to

make selection SHAPE2 and it would become the ACTIVE selection .

    etc...

When i move back to layer 1 it would show me Selection SHAPE1

again and it would become ACTIVE again etc...

of course that all plugins and effects would apply to the ACTIVE

selection SHAPE on that layer ONLY.

this would save allot of wasted time making different selections each time

for each layer. (or load alpha masks)

also would allow many other uses for such feature :-)

to make it work , you can have a selection option in the layer

properties that would say , "lock/save selection"

when it is set then the selection would not be removed

and would "stick" to this layer and shown when the layer is selected.

without this selection then the selection shape would act like it does now

for this layer. ie. would not change the selection shape when moving

    thru this layer.

(as a workaround today, i have a mask/alpha layer for each selection

for each layer which i re select each time)

my request would save all those layers and re selections.

    thank you

    Avi

    p.s.

it would be fun also to have in depended selections in one layer too

but this is just a wishful thinking ;-)

    p.s.2

again this would not effect the current selection mode where the selection

stays the same when moving between layers , skipping the layers

with the option "selection per layer" turned on.

  14. Hi

I want to print an image rotated in some angles.

however I don't want to rotate the picture it self since then

the canvas and other size parameter changes.

is there any plugin out there that can print

the image rotated at an angle i choose ?

    and resize it too.

i have tried to use the advance rotation plugins but they don't enlarge the canvas

and the picture goes out the edges.

i'm talking about A4 size picture.

any external image print driver/software ?

    thank you

    Avi

    p.s.

i guess that it wont be a part of Paint.Net , even that it would be a cool thingy.

    p.s. 2

i have tried xnview but it does not read PDN and worse it adds this black color

    as the canvas.

    p.s.3

rotation plugins only work on the selected layer and not all PDN itself and it must be flatten

1st so we are back to the rotation problem plugins.

  15. No there isn't, and that would be one annoying setting if you worked with a lot of large images last you used the program (which I often do...). Changing the setting would involve opening paint.net, and therefore opening all the last opened images as well.

If you go to "File>Open Recent", you can open images you worked on last you used paint.net

I meant that you change the settings while you work, so after you saved all the files if needed and close paint.net

the next time you open it , it would reload all the open files from the last time.

it would do it ONLY if you marked this option in the settings BEFORE you closed paint.net :-)

a compromise solution would be to add under "File>Open Recent" in the menu before the recent image

names list/icon , the option to "Load ALL" that would load all the Recent files from the list below.

    thank you

    Avi

  16. "There is a drawback to using the above method if you're dealing with different size images and you resize your project - it will resize all layers (even the layers that are unchecked so you aren't viewing them). "

that is the problem, all the pictures are in different sizes

also adding each image to the master image layers would increase the file too much! with useless images

since most of the time i only use parts of the images for a number of layers and not all the image.

ie select part and place here select another part resize it and place there etc...

as i wrote , using the command line solves most of the problem so no need to

place all the images into the master PDN.

all i asked is that paint.net would have a setting some where, that when its marked/checked

it would automatically load the last open files , if someone don't want to use it, don't mark/check it.

    Avi

  17. Hello

I would like to suggest a new Feature that would be great if implemented. (might be to hard

    to do)

I'm working with small images that each has a layer for it in the MAIN/Master project image.

each image has its orientations and layer effects to it.

each time i need to change one of the images in the master project layer

i go to the small image then make the change ,then copy the changed picture

to a new/same layer in the master project and apply the effects again.

(each layer is effected by other layers in the master project)

my idea is to have a "LINKED COPY"/"LINKED LAYER" of the open small picture on a

    layer in the master image.

this way any change made to the small open image would be made

to the small "linked" image in the masters layer.

no more copy/paste and adding effects.

the linked copy would be made permanent and the "linked copy" would be

broken, upon request or if the small open image would be closed.

(saying before its closed that there is a linked layer to it and if i want to break the link)

    1. this can be done for add a "linked layer" which is a single layer linked to a single open image.

    2. a linked layer that has a number of linked open images to it.

this idea can be even developed to more useful things....

and even no need to change plugins settings , when only the picture changes.

or change alpha's and linked alpha's etc...

    what do you think ?

    Avi

  18. Hi

As you read in my other posts, i'm working with many images open all the time.

today i'm using a batch file to load paint.net with the images name in the command line.

    (this is my workaround)

however since i add images , I sometime forget to add those image names to the

batch file, and they do not load.

so is there a way to add to paint.net the option to automatically load upon start the " last open images"

ie. the last images that were open before the program exited ?

    thank you

    Avi

    p.s.

of course to do it only if it is marked at the paint.net settings.

  19. Hi

i have a problem, my last project i have been working with many

small pictures open that are used as a base of objects for my

    big multi layers project.

however i do make changed to those small pictures and adjustments

    all the time.

i had to close the paint.net program and i pressed the X window button.

i got the popup that i have many images open and un saved.

and the option to save/not save .

    the problem.

i pressed don't save , thinking it was ment to the 1st images, that i'll have

a question regarding the 2nd images and so on ...

BUT the program just exited !!!

i lost many changes i made to the small images :-(

can the program be more "images friendly" and ask me this question for each

    image?

this way i could of saved my lost images, also have the chance to save them

    all.

the simple solution is add a check mark that say

"Apply to All Images" and if this is mark is checked just exit the program like now.

else ask the user if to save the file before each close.

    thank you

    Avi

  20. Hi

I'm working now on a project with canvas size A4 (5600x4200)

i'm working with large objects and small objects each in its own layer.

i wanted to align few object in a certain way and i wanted to use the grid

    for this.

however the grid is so small and can only be seen using 66% and more zoom in.

which makes it impossible to align the object since i can't see all of them

    together.

is there any way to adjust the grid to be in proportion to the correct

    zoom or not window ?

as a workaround i found is the grid plugin , but with it i must recreate the grid for each

zoom size and its hard to work like this.

having the grid adjusted automatically or at least allow max/min setting for it so it can be seen

    in an A4 size canvas.

    would be great help.

    Avi
