  1. Hi Ego

    its not about the names.

i can have the names correct like all layers that make up the nose called nose1-23 etc..

all i want is the ability to isolate a number of layers and see how they look like.

i can't move the layers up/down since this would change the larger PDN image.

the simple way i have to do it is save the PDN the remove all the visible marks from the layers and

then mark/select the layers i want to view . ie, all layers that make up the nose or the eyes+ eyes effects.

    then restore the saved PDN.

all i need is the option to remove all the visible layers marks in one go, ie with a click on a button

in the layer box. (of course with an "are you sure" question)

can this be arranged for ver 4.X ?

i have other wild ideas how to solve it, but i think this simple way is the best.

    thank you

    Avi

    p.s.

    love the bird pic :-)

  2. How about opening and adjusting most of the image separately, then copy into your layers?

    Hi Jim

    I don't see the connection ,

no need to make any adjustments to the layers. :-(

I already have a PDN with 60+ layers,

all i want is the ability to see/view/check part of the layers in the PDN that has

to do with lighting and smoke or other layers that make up different parts of the image/effect

in the greater PDN image etc.

think of a face PDN image made up from many layers, some layers make up the eyes some the nose some the mouth

some the ears some add effects etc..

and i want to be able to see each time just the layers that make up the eyes or mouth etc..

  3. Hi All

here is a problem i have, (also the workarounds.)

and i want to know is there is a better way to do it?

Working with many layers, I sometime want to isolate a layer or a number

of layers to see what they have on them or how their effect/image look like

    APART/OUTSIDE of the current image.

mainly when a layer has very small details or/and many light effects which are too bright/small

that can't be seen in the small layer preview window inside the "layers box".

    my current solutions/workarounds are:

    1. copy the layer/layers to a new image, (which is good for small number of layers.)

with black/white background layer to see, what was on those layers from the original PDN.

    2. place a black/white layer in the middle of the PDN itself and move it up/down to block

the layers below, however this does not block the layers above so its not

    very useful for most things.

solve this i would save the PDN and then unchecked all the layers above/below.

again working with many layers it takes time.

the simple way for solution 2 to work best , would be, an option added to paint.net layers box,

like an "Uncheck all" button (with a question "are you sure", to stop us doing so without saving 1st)

then we can select the layers we want to view/check.

after that we just restore the saved PDN.

do you have any other way to it or comments ?

    thank you

    Avi

    p.s.

also when having only those layers selected and adding my other topic about making a new image

from selected layers http://forums.getpai...visible-layers/ would allow even more options to do)

  4. Hi

    thank you for the answer,

I have used your answers to make my image. i just wanted the plugin do it for me.

i was thinking again, about the UI you are correct it is one of the crowed so angle circle would

be too much. so scrap it.

but if you ever get 100 requests for angle restriction /or nothing else to do in your spare time,

i guess you can just add a small box with an angle number (no big circle)

where user can enter 0-360 , default 360,

i think there would be room just for this in the UI ;-)

about the inner circle scrap it too. since doing it the other way is very fast.

    codelab:

i have started to look into it, using BoltBait great tutorials!

and learning by looking into other plugins codes, that i can put my hands on.

(any chance to see your highlight2 code ?)

again thank you thank you :-)

    Avi

  5. Hi Red ochre

Just wanted to tell you that your highlight2 plugin is GREAT !! :-)

    I love it.

I have an idea to add to your plugin, tell me what do you think.

Can you add a selection circle and in it create two radius's with a

    changeable angle between them.

this can restrict the effect span to between those two lines only.

saving the need to use/create selection with angles etc..

for example creating a desk light with rays toward the table only.

    i also have a question?

I want to create a light bulb effect but with a twist, i want the middle to be empty.

ie. the rays would start to be shown only from a selected radius from the center.

can you tell me how to do it? or can you add such feature to this great plugin?

you can add it to my former idea above, and add the radius selection to the

angle selection box from the above idea.

    thank you

    Avi.

    p.s.

i know i can select a circle on top of the work area cutting the glow start lines.

  6. Hi

Just had an idea and wanted to share with you and get your input.

working with many layers 60+ is great, but most of the time we have many

that are not selected ie. visible.sometime 30+

those layers are most of the time not needed anymore or make

it too crowd in the layer box, making layer selection and handling messy.

The best way is to remove them from the PDN, while keeping only the visible selected.

But removing the "not selected" layers one by one is time consuming and again, accidents happen.

my idea has three solutions .

A simple way to do it, is just add under "edit menu" or the "Layer menu"

the following. "Create new PDN from selected visible layers"..

    OR

add to the "Save As" the option to

    "Save selected visible layers only"

OR the long way, that has its good things in it too.

Add the option to INVERT the layers visibility selection, and then the option

to remove/delete selected layers. (of coarse add an approval "are you sure box")

This option would even be great for other uses when we need to switch

back and forth between many visible layers. for example when making animations etc..

    what do you thing?

    Avi

  7. How about just expanding the history window and taking a photo of it or press the print screen button then open a new canvas and copy it on to there. You can then save as a jpeg and put it in the corresponding project folder.

    Hi

Sorry for the late answer, but i was on vacation with no internet :-)

the history window has many unneeded titles like for example "magic wand" (like the pic below)

that spans all over, so capturing needs to be of parts of the history and i need to

erase those unneeded titles to cut the picture down into something i can use.

    this is not the way.

    Ego & minners71

what you say are part of workarounds i use today, but they take time

and not always good as mentioned above.

i don't plan to wait for it as you said Ego , I just asked for the very simple plain text, "just the history list"

with NO need effects settings etc...

with this plain list i can do many things.

like create/edit an excel table that i can write the settings myself or other remarks.

or create "How To Do Notes" for not losing good ideas i had/have.

doing it today takes long time and mistakes can be made. (like i do each day)

again its an interesting and very simple idea, that can be done, whenever it would be done.

(hopefully before i'm too old and would not be able to use it anymore ;-) = old man joke)

    thank you for your understanding

    Avi

  8. Interesting idea.

I don't know how useful this would be without the settings of the effect/adjustment and the layer that it was applied to.

Methinks you would be better just writing it down as you do it.

    Hi Ego

writing down as I do it, is not practical since there are many changes, and i might miss or make a mistake

during this process. (tried it and messed it up ;-( )

About the effects setting , the truth is that it would be great to have the settings too next to the effect name.

but i don't know how/if paint.net keeps such info saved in the history too?

so i didn't ask for it and kept my request as simple as i could.

I also think it is an intresting idea :-)

    Avi

  9. Hi Rick

Just wondering would it be possible sometime in Paint.Net to save/export to the clipboard

the history box as a text list of what we did ?

    WHY you ask ...

since I use many effects and settings in a given PDN, I sometime wants

to write me some notes about how i did something and the steps i used to do it,

before my old memory lets me down.

I know that the PDN it self has the history, but now I need to go over all the

list and manually write/type down in notepad the list , which most of the time is very long.:-(

Having the ability to save/export the history box text to a file or to the clipboard

would be very helpful, make it easy to edit the list

and keep track/notes of steps and ways to do something.

I don't need the settings used in the effect/adjustments , but just the

TEXT names of the steps taken as shown in the history box.

    thank you

    Avi

    p.s.

I guess it would/might help making tutorials since you would have the outline steps ready ..

  10. Hi All

thank you for the answers :-)

what you all wrote are the methods i use to "solve" this "puzzle" game of selections

    peaces .

i remember having such plugin in an old computer i had with photoshop 6 (before CS series)

anyone remember such plugin ? would it work with the .paint.net "ps plugin" plugin ;-)

    Rick

    1. is there a way that you might add a selection brush?

this would help in the trimming of the selection and allow a more precise control of selections.

(i have a workaround for it using regular brush on a layer but it takes more time)

    2. is there a way that you can add the option to resize a selection with a UI or

on the main menu tools line, next to the selection mode option ?

like 60% would reduce the selection size itself by 60 % (around the center of the selection)

this would make it easy to get an accurate size of the selection then use your idea

and subtract it from the larger selection shape.

    Thank you

    Avi

    p.s.

another old man fun, making my idea in to a picture below,

there i used my idea to reduced/resized the selection to 60% with

the ease of a click of a button :-)

    selection_resize1.jpg

    Hi Rick

can you please just comment on my resize selection idea ? (like in the picture)

is it any good? would it be possible to do some day ?

    thank you

    Avi

  11. Hi BoltBait

in your outline selection plugin, you color along the inside line of the selection area.

can you add the option to color along the OUTSIDE line of the selection area , without

the need to inverse the selection ?

question -> can you make any changes to the selection it self or this is something that only Rick

can do in his selection code ?

    thank you

    Avi

  12. Personally I think it's a testament to the inner workings of PDN that it's so versatile ...

Your post comes across as pretty condescending. Where else are you going to find such a powerful tool @ the same price ?

    NO NO NO !!!!!

    THE OTHER WAY AROUND !!!

    you didn't understand what i wrote !

the post is just to show how GOOD is Paint.Net!!!

and it also posted as having "fun" with all the workarounds

we have in the forum :-) and nothing else.

didn't you read what i wrote to Rick ???

NO "condescending" here. (i had to translate it to know what it ment!)

please take it as a "Compliment" to Paint.Net not anything else!!

    Avi

  13. Hi All

I just want to share this with you. (Rick nothing bad against you!!)

yesterday we had some old man meeting in our local pub

having fun (and i think too much beer also) we talked about

projects we do with paint.net, and about this forum and all the

    workarounds in it too.

we said that because Paint.Net is so versatile it allows many

workarounds to many ideas/needs/effects etc.. that the user

wants and can't do directly sometime.

so we gave Paint.Net the extension "workaround" -> Paint.Net.Workarounds :-)

    Rick ,

Please continue your great and blessed work and keep Paint.Net.Workaround

    at the Top !

    3 x Cheers.

    Thank You!

    Avi & Friends

    p.s.

search for the word workaround in the forum , there are lots of topics.

  14. The plugin in my pack "Effects > Selection > Outline Selection" has a check mark to "Preserve canvas edges".

So, the instructions given before should work just fine for you.

    Hi BoltBait

one of my Favorite plugin maker!

i must say that i looked at my "Outline Selection" and there was no such option.

after checking i found out that after removing all the plugins , (another topic story)

i restored the "wrong" selection plugin not yours.

i replaced the plugins and now i can do what you and pdnnoob said :-)

(it has some draw backs on complex selections but it is much better now !)

    thank you

    Avi

    p.s.

BoltBait, where can i asked you questions about your selection plugin ?

  16. Invert selection should do the trick (ctrl+i)

    Hi

it does not work like that .

if i select a circle, i can't select Invert since it would select all the screen (except the circle)

and if i apply the Outline selection plugin it would paint around the screen too

    which is not good.

    I need a better solution.

    Avi

  17. Hi all

For some strange reason i can't find a plugin that does inline/inner selection.

the inverse of Outline selection plugin.

anyone know were i can find it or how can i implement it without a plugin.

i have a workaround for simple and not complex selections, using resize

selections etc.. but it takes long time to implement, and it does not work

    for complex selection shapes.

    thank you

    Avi

  18. I just downloaded paint.net, it looks like it will be a big upgrade from PC Paint, which I currently use. There's one important feature in PC Paint that I can't seem to locate, though: declaring the background of a selected area to be transparent. In sequence, it looks like this:

    post-80923-129630443465_thumb.jpg

I use this function quite a bit, and I figure if it's in PC Paint, that it would certainly be in paint.net - I just can't find the spot. Can somebody help me out? Thanks!

    Hi

    easy said then done.

    1. select the area you want to move/copy etc..

    2. use plugin called "color to alpha" it would make all background color in the selection transparent

    http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?showtopic=7767

you can play with the settings to get even more options.
