  1. @possum Love your fantasy scene. I agree with others, those curtains are brilliant, and I love your background setting. Unfortunately, while your spiders are good, I am a real aracnaphobe (6 legs no problem, 8 legs and I'm blubber). @Oma I have been away since you started your elephant. When I saw your initial sketches I didn't think I would like it. Since you turned her gold, you converted me. She's lovely. @welsh blue See what you mean about your drink, not up to your usual standard. I look forward to seeing the revised version, hopefully good enough to drink
  2. You could always find a tutorial you like and base your lesson on it. It has been done before (check out glass orb tut) Tuts are a good way to learn pdn.

  4. Depends what you mean by a cartoon. You can take a photo, put a white layer above it, adjust the transparency until you can clearly see the image underneath and then draw the obvious lines of contast on another layer. This gives the black and white hand drawn look. If you want a coloured cartoony look, try turning your layers from a diagonal line to a vertical centerline step. This gives the coloured comic book look. Overlay with an ink or pencil sketch (multiply mode), though this doesn't suit all images.

  6. It's not overdone, I think it is a great starting piece for heaps of designs. As it stands the centre isnt quite right, but the outside is fantastic. I had a little play with it and got some great results (I hope you don't mind, I wont publish them). Try these ideas, see what you think. 1, Put a twist distortion on it. 2, Run a lens effect on it (this can then be reduced in size, and make an interesting center) 3, Do an inside out distort Hope you like these ideas Po.

  8. @Possum Love the 'spider' concept, and I like your arachnid. Couple of things I noticed though. You have a cool shadow on the wall, but no corrisponding lighting on this side of the spider. Also the bottom reflection should meet any feet that are touching the ground. Particularly noticible on the near side feet. @Xander, great start on the sabre. Look forward to seeing the finished image. @Yellowman I love the watermellon. I don't think you need to do anything to it, it's brilliant.

  10. How many fonts do you have loaded? It is tempting to load lots of fonts, but it does slow things down (and not just pdn). Best to only keep your top fonts loaded and use a font manager to temporarily load extras as needed.

  16. @boude not all the bubbles at the top use smudge. The trick to these bubbles is really the use of lomographyto alter the basic image before forming the ball. The same system can be used to create marbles, using various initial textures and the hue slider to brighten the colours. @McyD, I look forward to seeing your finished bubbles. @yy10, playing with your original settings changes the way the center looks, but you will always get a focal point using insideout. There are other ways to create the round shape (still using nebulous and lomography) but it requires far more work to get a respectable bubble, too much for a tutorial.

  20. If are looking for a bit of light drawing, try these bubbles. (level fairly easy) Plugins used Madjik's plugin pack (Nebulous, Random lines) viewtopic.php?f=16&t=21592 Boltbait's plugin pack (Lomography) viewtopic.php?f=16&t=22819 Ed Harvey's plugin pack (Insideout, Lens) viewtopic.php?f=16&t=26244 pyrochild's plugin pack (Smudge, Random Shape fill) viewtopic.php?f=16&t=21706 Step 1 Open new file, (800 x 600 fine) and colour background black. Step 2 create the basic design In a new layer, fill with effects-texture-nebulous Settings at or near default positions Step 3 Personalise your bubble with bright random graphics. Here are some ideas effects-render-random lines, 25 lines, thickness max 4, min 1, Random Colours, random alpha chanel, clamp lines to boarder, anti aliasing. effects-render-random shape fill, circles, Number 30, max size 30, min size 6, RGB, use transparency, antialias effects-distort-smudge, use four or five bold strokes You should now have something like this. Step 4 Create the bubble effect-photo-lomography, exposure about -10 effect-distort-insideout effect-distort-lens, setting about 9 but adjust for each bubble (gives a more 3d look). This is the basic bubble Step 5 Create some highlights. select the bubble ( transparent area then ctrl I to invert selection) create new layer using white brush, size about 20, draw a half moon top, smaller half moon bottom effect-blurs-Gausian blur, radius 50 adjust layer opacity to approx 150 (layers menu :Properties: ) deselect bubble and you are finished.
