  1. ps - I was thinking about adding this to the miscellaneous tutorials section, but I wasn't sure if it was too short or too "easy" for it. If this was already available in a search, then it would have saved me a little bit of time. Hopefully, this will save other people some time also.

(Look at the first post in this thread. :) )
  2. As a designer, may I warn you against making a full-color image as your logo?  You may want to consider reading some tutorials online for making a good, iconic logo.  You want it to be reproducible at many sizes, and in color as well as black-and-white.  That's why simple shapes and wordmarks make such excellent logos.

Check out the redesigns at http://underconsideration.com/brandnew for some ideas about what's considered "good" and "bad" logo design.

  3. Hello. :)

Holding ctrl on your keyboard and then using your mouse wheel will zoom you in and out, also you will find zooming functions in the bottom right corner of paint.net 4.0.

You may have missed this reply while you were composing your own.  I think this will help.  :)

Incidentally, to link to a particular point in a video, you need to choose the "Share" tab on YouTube and check the "Start At" checkbox, then copy that url.

  4. now that XP support has ended, I would say - you can't afford not to upgrade. ;)

This, a million times this. You're putting your data at risk, you're putting your computer at risk, and you're putting the internet at risk - your computer may already be being used as part of a botnet or DDoS attack. Do yourself and the rest of the world a favor, and upgrade your computer.

Do you drink Starbucks? Brew some coffee at home for two weeks instead and protect your PC. Do you eat lunch or dinner at a fast food restaurant? Brown bag it for a week and make your life simpler. Honestly, I can't imagine that anyone with an ounce of self-control couldn't find a way to save up $70 and upgrade.

If you're running Windows XP, Paint.NET support is the least of your concern.  Upgrade.  Seriously.  Before something terrible happens (and it will).  Your computer is a ticking time bomb, and as NN said, you can't afford not to defuse it.

  5. Barbie, you're much more generous than I would have been.

DarthAsylum, literally hundreds of thousands of people have downloaded this program with precisely zero problems.  I myself have done it no less than six times.  While there are several bugs of varying severity that have been reported (as with any new release), this one, to my recollection, has not been.  If you are the only one who is having the problem, the problem might just be you.

I understand you're frustrated, but dropping the attitude will get you much better results.  It'll only cause you problems in the future.  You've been officially warned for both rudeness and cursing in the title; further infractions WILL result in a ban.

    That said,

We'd love to help you get this sorted out.  When you post the crash log, you might also want to let us know what sort of software you have running on your computers when Paint.NET crashes (such as antivirus software, desktop mods, etc.) that might be affecting this.  Maybe there's a bad interaction here.

  6. I was so happy to see the latest release of PDN and then so VERY unhappy to find that the program will only run on Windows 7 or later. What about us poor dinosaurs who still run Vista, in my case, or even XP for others?

As a disabled person on a pension, I can afford neither a new computer nor to purchase Windows 7 to upgrade my system.

I think this is most unfair and deprives us of the new features available with this version.

Sorry. As has been noted several times, there are features in the new version that are simply not possible to do in older versions of Windows.

Incidentally, if you're running Windows XP, you're in bad shape. Microsoft stopped supporting that this year; in the months to come, users of Windows XP are going to be attacked by so many viruses, attacks, and trojans that it's essentially like being on a leaking submarine. It's only a matter of time before the ship sinks.

  7. Cheers, mate, works great!

But I stand by my remark that the cog thingy is too "hidden". Every single other production software has a "options" menu-choice, then why not Paint.net? This is a case of wanting to be different for the sake of being different. Totally unacceptable...

Uh, no.  That's actually the way a lot of programs are going (Firefox, Chrome, IE, heck even Office uses a little icon nowadays).
