Actually the shadow looks very very good, just seems the direction of the shadow is a little off.
Look at the highlight of the tire.

Use different settings to make each so they look different.
Use higher quality setting so the grass is smoother.
Try to put some in the front also so it will have depth.

If all else fails, type the text after resize.
If the text is already there, try to clone stamp out the text then resize, then type text.
-
When you resize, you see a drop down menu of different resize methods, try and see if it helps.

However, if you really still unhappy about it, try And Shadow/Highlight recovery.

You have the bottom layer as your original B&W image.
Follow cutting out image tut = cutting out the parts/person you wanna color.
Add new layer, paste the cutouts on this new layer.
Run color tint on that new layer.
Done.
-
Also, Have you mastered all the available tools and effects yet?
-
You cut out the people, color tint them. Then you have color tinted people on B&W photo.
So, in a way, it's kinda like that tut I point you to, also search for "cutting out image", it might help too.

Tut would be a bit hard for the water, as I forgot 1 of the blurs I used.
I drop some hints of the steps I remember on the fan forum.
Here you go, hope it helps some.
