  1. I copied the image from your post above and pasted it into paint.net. Although in your post, the image appears to have two white areas, these are in fact transparent, as indicated by the checkerboard pattern. Are these the "obvious white background" that you are referring to? If you want to fill them, then just select them with the Magic Wand tool, then use the Paint Bucket tool. It's not 100% clear what you are trying to achieve. Please could you explain.
  2. 1. Press Ctrl + S (to start the Save) 2. Type a name for the file 3. Press Tab (to move to the Save as type field) 4. Press J (to select JPG) 5. Press Enter (to select Save) 6. Press Enter (to select OK) So to choose .jpg it's just TWO key additional presses, i.e steps 3 and 4. It really is no big deal if you use the keyboard instead of the mouse.
  3. Heather, your question could mean so many different things. Please could you explain exactly what you are trying to do. Please could you post an example of your picture (resize it smaller first if necessary). Please could you change the title of your post to something more meaningful than Staff Engineer
  4. When you run Paint.NET it does not reload files from your previous session. No need to be.
  5. Understood. Maybe for me the keyboard is preferred because I'm always on a laptop, so swapping from trackpad to keyboard and back again involves very little movement. Good point.
  6. Ha, that's funny. @Tactilis <- Idiot! ...having just found out that keyboard warrior means "a person who makes abusive or aggressive posts on the internet, typically one who conceals their true identity." Hopefully my posts are neither abusive nor aggressive 😇
  7. @Tactilis <- Keyboard warrior me! Using Alt+ menu keys and application shortcut keys is so much faster than making mouse movements to select menu items and tool commands.
  8. When a selection exists, then the menu items Edit | Copy and Edit | Copy Merged are active as expected: When there is no selection Edit | Copy and Edit | Copy Merged are greyed out: These items should not be greyed out as it is, quite rightly, still possible to perform their functions using the shortcuts Ctrl+C and Ctrl+Shift+C. Because they are greyed out it is not possible to invoke them using Alt+EC and Alt+EM. @Rick Brewster Would it be possible to correct this for 5.0.3 please? Additionally, the Edit Menu page of the Documentation needs a couple of updates to accurately reflect the operation of the commands:
  9. Which program(s) are you pasting to that exhibit this problem please?
  10. This is the third time you have raised this. Did you actually read and understand the answers that were given when you asked about it previously? For example: https://forums.getpaint.net/topic/119700-still-riculous-load-on-pc-while-installing-4310/#comment-593534 Hundreds of thousands of people do not have the problem you are reporting when they install paint.net. So which is more likely: 1. There is something FUNDAMENTALLY wrong with the installation procedure, as you claim? or 2. Your PC is underpowered / you have a HDD / anti-virus is slowing down the decompression and installation? You were asked about the specification of your PC. You chose not to give any details.
  11. See https://forums.getpaint.net/topic/2940-popular-feature-requests/ > Ability to re-edit text, or "text layers", or some variation thereof -- This an enormous work item due to other plumbing that must be in place to enable it. This falls into the "yes I agree, and hopefully we'll have it someday." No solid ETA, but planned for a 5.0 or 5.x release. This is getting closer to reality, so hang in there.
  12. Some techniques you can use are covered in this thread: https://forums.getpaint.net/topic/121977-how-do-i-change-the-text-colour-of-a-logo
  13. That's a strange statement to make. Hundreds of thousands of people easily download paint.net. Which of these easy steps are you having a problem with? Step 1. Go to getpaint.net and click on either of the Download links: Step 2. Choose whether you want it for free or are going to pay for the store version. Let's assume free: Step 3. Choose whether to download the normal installer or the portable version. Let's assume the installer: Once you have paint.net installed, you never have to do the above again because the built-in updater handles all subsequent updates.
  14. How feasible is it for you to mock up your screen upside down; at least when you need to do a measurement? It's very quick to do Image | Flip Vertical by pressing Alt+I V You could then do the part of the drawing that requires measurement with the Y-axis in the desired orientation and afterwards flip back to view your screen.
  15. Have you tried? Paint.NET uses the fonts you have installed under Windows. If you want to add a 3D/Texture effect to existing fonts, then you could use the Creative Text Pro plugin
  16. You could use AutoHotKey https://www.autohotkey.com/ to easily script the pressing of "Alt F (File), R (Recent), C (Clear) and Enter (to confirm)". Out of interest, what language/keyboard layout do your use please?
  17. The driver isn't missing. It's just the colour setting that needs to be changed as indicated in the thread you linked. The OP needs to click Options, then Printer Properties.
  18. It will have it at some point in the future. See https://forums.getpaint.net/topic/2940-popular-feature-requests/ "Polygonal lasso / selection tool - At some point, yes. Not sure when though (no ETA)."
  19. Something that might get fixed in WIC? Or is it an error in the IPTC data itself?
  20. What is the message you get when the update fails? You could simply download the the latest version from https://getpaint.net and install that.
  21. The draggable/snappable guidelines are nice and Paint.NET would certainly benefit from similar - but to be fair, Photopea is not a free editor, unless you are OK with Ads:
  22. I don't understand. What is "freaky" about the process explained above? It's just basic layer manipulation. Or is the "freaky" aspect the fact that I showed how to use the shortcut keys, which massively speeds up interaction with the UI compared to using the mouse? Yes, draggable guidelines, perhaps associated with the rulers, would be a nice addition to Paint.NET. Maybe they will bubble up to the top of @Rick Brewster's TODO list at some point - but in the meantime there are a lot of much more important things to implement. Out of interest, which other free editors are you referring to that have guideline functionality please? I'd like to take a look at how they implement it.
  23. Obviously, the behaviour you are seeing is not by design. Ctrl+P is intended to activate the Print dialog. Something is odd about your system that has persisted from your Windows 7 system to your current Windows 11. 1. In paint.net, if you click the menu item File | Print, do you get the same behaviour as pressing Ctrl+P ? 2. What exactly happens when you press Ctrl+P?
