  1. Well, I had sort-of figured out that it needed to be a single pass, but when doing a recolor which has a fussy area, such as recoloring hair or clothing, doing a single pass is all but impossible. For instance, even a transparent background acquires coloring. Skin and background around a garment becomes colored. So do the face and ears near hair. Is there a solution for this? For hair, I tried making a copy of the layer, removing all but the garment in question, the recoloring it and re-merging the two layers. I could try that more hair, but with all the wispy parts of hair, it's difficult to get a clean cut out.
  2. I have never managed to master the color replacer... and I have so many possible uses for it! I'm assuming that I somehow have the settings wrong. I select my colors. I've been trying o change the color of a shirt in a photograph, Often, I'm trying to change hair color. SO, in this case, I want a tan shirt to be teal. Unless I can do it in one sweep, I end up with color changes when the tool touches already changed color. Like this. What do I need to do to change hair color without changing skin next to it, or color of the shirt without color going into the background or the skin of the subject?
  3. Ooh, I'll have to go grab Pixel SOrt. I can think of uses for it! A description of moonstone is "Generally a white stone, rainbow moonstone features occasional iridescent or multicolored flashes with transparency that ranges from opaque to semitranslucent. Rainbow moonstone is best seen in natural light for play of color." THis is a pic of a rainbow moonstone, which I snagged from Firemountain Gems.
  4. I am back at my talisman collection. (It's ongoing for a series of books). THis time, I'm after a yin-yang symbol made of malachite and moonstone, with bronze surrounding the malachite, and platinum surrounding the moonstone. This is a first attempt at the design, using Creative Text Pro to do the metals. The malachite is from the above thread. For the moonstone, I tried blue and green clouds and then blurred them, but they did not give the effect I wanted. The plan is the make a necklace of a number of the symbols, linked by bronze links. (The magicker in question really likes bronze and malachite, but this time he's working with someone who does platinum and moonstone.) There will likely be 29 symbols in the necklace.
  5. Let me see if I have this straight. I use Effects > Object > Apply Mask to create the mask in the clipboard? And then I use Effects > Object > Paste Alpha to put the mask on the layer it is supposed to go on? IOW, it's not all in the same plug-in, but is a two-step process?
  6. I am attempting to use Boltbait's, as Illnab1024's plugin, which is called for in the Gold Metal tutorial by Sarkut is too old for current versions of PDN. Apparently, I do not understand how Boltbait's is supposed to work.
  7. The images are your original creations, made using the tools in PDN? If so, then yes, you can use them. If it was artwork or photos taken by someone else which you edited with PDN, then you would have to get the permission of the creator or photographer to use them. I believe one can license a "derivative" work.
  8. I am attempting to make two similar "metals" using Sarkut's Gold Metal Tutorial. I started out with the black layer. Then I did the figure that I wanted to metallicize on two separate layers. The two are similar but not identical. I created the linear gradient on two layers, one below each of the Mask Layers. For my Mask01, I then did Ctrl A, Crtl C, and Ctrl D. I then applied the Mask01 to my Gradient 01 layer. This works perfectly. However, when I go to my Mask02 layer, and again do Ctrl A, Crtl C, and Ctrl D, and then attempt to apply Mask02 to Gradient02, for some reason, the Mask01 has not cleared from the clipboard, and I get Mask01 on my Gradient02. I have repeated the Ctrl A, Crtl C, and Ctrl D several times, making sure I was on the correct layer. I get the same thing each time. I have tested my Ctrl A, Crtl C, and Ctrl D. The new mask did indeed copy to the clipboard. But for some reason, the Apply Alpha Mask is repeating, rather than using the new Alpha Mask I copied into the clipboard. I am not sure what I need to do to "clear" the first alpha mask so I can use the second. Edited to add: I have now tried drawing a Circle, drawing a line, pencil, brush, and bucket fill to try to replace Apply Alpha Mask in the Repeat Command spot. Apply Alpha Mask is still there.
  9. That did it -- the link. Thank you.
  10. Trying to DL Shape3D and get no response. Is there a newer version for the current PDN? When I hover over the DL button, it says "Waiting on (hame of server)," and after a couple minutes, that clears, but I still get nothing when I click on it. Also, I tried to post to that thread and could not. Is it closed?
  11. Oh! I didn't EVEN realize that that was a type setting, even though it's clearly labeled "Type." I think maybe I should go hibernate for awhile because I am clearly brain-dead at the moment.
  12. No, it turns out that somehow, I was an idiot, and managed to, when updating, after the last PDN update, to overwrite the correct plug-ins with an older version. Naturally, they did not work with the new PDN. Once I DL the correct version and re-installed them, funny thing, it worked correctly.
  13. Now I have another headache. I'm trying to follow an old tutorial. Sarkut's Gold Metal. Obviously, with the date, it's for an older version. I've found, the plug-ins linked there won't work. I've found newer versions of all but Metallize, which may now be built in, except it doesn't have the three types of Metallize. I have not YET found a newer version of this tutorial, and the last time I used it, I got some really nice effects. Any thoughts or suggestions?
  14. I've got them now. Somehow or other, I squirrelled up with the download when I was trying to update things. I knew it had to be something I did wrong. I just didn't know WHAT. But it appears that I have most everything now.....
  15. I have 5.06... SOMEHOW, the older plug-ins replaced the newer ones. I need to go find the newer ones.....
  16. I am assuming I've done something wrong. I have a whole batch of plug-ins, many from what I *thought* was BoltBait's latest pack, including Bevel Selection but I am missing a number of tools in Object and Render and elsewhere which I remember as being there before the last update. I am trying to follow the tutorial for Shiny Letters using an alpha mask, subbing a newer alpha mask plug-in for the one specified in the tutorial. But now I cannot find the bevel. Error message as follows (all error messages say the plug-ins are incompatible, so I've just listed their names. Except I just went and got what I thought were the latest version of both BoltBait's and Pyrochild's packs. Did I somehow snag the wrong packs? _____________________ C:\Program Files\paint.net\Effects\Transparency.dll, version 4.6.7358.39871 Name: Transparency Type: TransparencyEffect.TransparencyEffectPlugin Version: 4.6.7358.39871 Author: Copyright © 2018 BoltBait Copyright: Adjust the transparency of a selection Website: http://www.boltbait.com/pdn This plugin is incompatible with this version of paint.net. 17. Oh, well. Somebody send me some magnesium oil to dull the pain.... as you say, SOMEDAY.
  18. When printing a picture, the default is to automatically "Fit Picture to Frame," ie, enlarge it to whatever size of paper it's being printed on. I do a LOT of printing to PDFs, and have to turn this off on every layer, 5-6 times per file. Is there a way to set the default on this to "Do NOT Fit Picture to Frame?" It would save me, on average, 6 clicks per project, roughly 40 projects per weekend. And that many clicks DOES make a difference for my poor fingers.
  19. THis one is not new to 5.0. I have always had an issue with it, so I'm assuming I am probably doing something wrong. As noted in my Color thread, I'm working on bales for a new Barn Hunt map. Image 1 shows what my old bales look like. I remember it took me the long end of forever to get those wide diagonal stripes in the Base Edge Bale. So I thought I would try something different. I started with the Rectangle tool on "Draw Filled Shape with Outline.", and set the fill to "Wide Upward DIagonal." I drew my Rectangle, then reset it to "Draw Outline" and "Solid" to achieve the solid line around the Rectangle. Hah. I thought. I've found a much faster way to do these darn things. Then I backed out from about 600% and realized the lines are so close together they look solid when printed. The reason for having a solid block for the Base Flat Bale and a lined block for the Base Edge Bale is because course builders frequently cannot tell the difference between shades and tints of the same color.(Yes, I have to use Shades and Tints of the same color for each layer of the course.) So, said I, I'll just use Color Replace to remove every other line so they will be distinct. THis would have worked perfectly except.... I get weird light bits when going over the same area twice. IOW, I am replacing Color B with Color A, and if my Replacement Tool goes over ANY of Color B, it turns it into Color C, a lighter tint. This is NOT what I want, but it's what always happens to me when trying to do a Replace. Image 1 shows Original Bales. Image 2 shows the sequence I described above. Image 3 shows a closeup of the lined bale with an attempt to remove every other dark line, with the light freckles on Color A. I think I remembered to include the Replacement settings I used, but they don't seem to matter. No matter what I set Replacement on, I get those dang freckles. I assume I am doing something wrong, but I don't know what.
  20. Rick, Just wanted to say that I am glad to see PDN continuing to evolve. (I do hope we can open old files when you revamp the file format!) I stumbled across PDN some years ago, and now, literally could not run my dog training business without it. It's why I make a small monthly donation to the program. Thank you for PDN!
  21. I use lots of your plug-ins. Do I have to uninstall / remove them when I put the new ones in, or does your installer do that? Also, where do I send a donation? This is All New, and Lotsa Work.
  22. Well, I finally got the colors to work. I made a copy of my pallet, with a new name. I did add the purples to that one. I selected it in 5.0. And all of a sudden, the colors were correct. And didn't change on me when I used the color picker. I have no idea why that apparently fixed it, but it did. See, the problem is -- I do not use pinks at all on these courses. I just included them in case I might have a use for them some day. (The Barn Hunt Association is forever adding things which must be on course maps, and since I teach a class in course building, the maps I use have to have all The Right Things on them.) The only thing out of the red/pink group that I use is clear red, to put a red edge on the bale which is called an "anchor" block -- that is, it does not change position from course to course. So having my base layer bales turn up pink was an issue. What was happening was that when I tried to draw a bale in medium orange with a darker orange edge, I got salmon pink. I would have the colors set correctly, and then when I started to draw, it would change colors, both in what I was drawing and in the color wheel.
  23. This is the pallet I used with both PDN 4 and PDN 5. I created the pictures on the left with it in PDN 4. The picture on the right was created with the same pallet in PDN 5. BarnHuntColors.txt
  24. Are you asking for a JPG or for the PDN files? The PDN files are kinda large. 300 dpi and 8" x 10". Pixie, no, the problem is that what now appears as FF9C9C SHOULD be the colors on the left -- the pallet I am using has shades or tints of the same orange. (Also blue, purple, and green.)
  25. Right -- and the problem is -- I am using the same pallet for the original bales. The FF9C9C is what I got using the same pallet in PDN 5 that I used in PDN 4. And I want to know why. And how do I fix it?
