Crazy Man Dan
I don't believe this is a bug. When moving a selection, Paint.NET moves the pixels inside that selection. If the pixels were transparent in that selection before you moved they would be transparent after you moved it as well. This is how it's supposed to work. If you want your selection with transparency to show what's behind it, create a new layer and paste in the new layer. Rick Brewster
Dan is correct. This is not a bug. When you move the pixels around we are copying them verbatim, so to speak. We are not blending them in to the existing pixels on that layer. Rick Brewster
We are well aware of how it works, no need to explain it. I disagree that it is counter-intuitive. People who will be working with transparency are generally at the higher end of our user base and will recognize what is going on and how to accomplish what they want. Imagine if it worked the way you think it should. There would be no way to move pixels around in an overwriting fashion. Everything would always be blended, new layer or not. With our current design you just make a new layer, move the pixels to the new layer, and then move it around. We are functionally complete. Crazy Man Dan
The entire reason of being able to work with layers is so you can put things on top of each other. It makes sense, at least to me, the way it works now. I'm sorry you don't agree. Hopefully, after you use it a little more, you'll get used to the way it works.
