Centering an image

Recommended Posts

I have a photo 370 x 206 pxs which I want to stay in the centre of the workscreen after I add a layer 3200 x 2400 on top of it. However, after adding the new layer the photo is transported to the top left corner and I can't work out how to move it back. I want it to show through a cut-out in the layer.

Can someone help, please?

Thanks

Increase the canvas size (Image/Canvas Size or Ctrl-Shift-r) before you import the photo. It will give you the option to increase the canvas equally on all sides (default setting) in the bottom of the window.

Really? Try it again. It will not do that if you do it right.

Try selecting just the 370 x 206px section of the photo and copy that (Ctrl+C). Then paste it into a new canvas (Ctrl+Alt+V) that is only 370 x 206px. Now, try resizing the new canvas to 3200 x 2400px with the anchor set to the center. I think this exerciser will give you a better understanding of how the layer/canvas/selection relationship works...
