david.atwell Posted October 27, 2011 Share Posted October 27, 2011 The magic wand works by selecting a contiguous region of pixels that are the same color (within the tolerance you set) as the one you click. If it's leaving a line around the figure, that's because the tolerance is set low enough to ignore those pixels; the image is "bleeding" color into those pixels, making them slightly darker than the white background you're cutting the image out of. Basically, it removes a thin line of pixels around the edges, leaving a smooth edge around the object.
