pn66
I've been using paint.net for awhile but really miss things other programs have. My problem is I can't seem to figure out how to get it to do things differently. I'd like the selection tool to snap to the move tool automatically. Can this be done? How do I do it? When on a layer and I do select something it seems to take a background with it as well I thought layers were transparent. I create a new layer, draw a line, select that line and CTRL+Move it and I get the line in a white box which covers up anything else on the layer. Windows Paint has a button to push to eliminate the white box(selection background).....does Paint.net have this function? I'd also like the line tool to stop automatically switching to the Bezier function after I've drawn a line. I've scoured the forums but can't seem to find any answers. Thanks Paul
csm725
@Your first question - AFAIK, it cannot. @Your second question - There was a topic about this very recently, Sarkut had answered it. Here is the link: [link] @Your third question - Just click Enter after drawing your line. Sarkut
Windows Paint has a button to push to eliminate the white box(selection background).....does Paint.net have this function? No. Paint.NET doesn't have a Draw Opaque function that can be turned on or off. It isn't needed because Paint.NET has layers. When on a layer and I do select something it seems to take a background with it as well I thought layers were transparent. I create a new layer, draw a line, select that line and CTRL+Move it and I get the line in a white box which covers up anything else on the layer. ? I'm going to guess that you are working above a white background layer. (If I'm guessing wrong, you can ignore the rest of this.) When you move a selection on the new layer it appears that there is a white box however the white is merely the background layer showing through. What is actually happening is that you are moving an object in a "clear box". The alpha is part of the selection and moves with the selection. When moving a selection on a layer, the selection applies in overwrite mode. To avoid this, make the selection, copy it, paste into its own new layer. When it's moved on its own layer the alpha won't overwrite what is on the lower layer. Edited November 2, 2010 by Sarkut
