joegilmour
I am very new to Paint.net, so excuse me if I have missed something obvious here. I cannot find a 'crop' tool in paint.net. I can only see a 'crop to selection'. Can I make a selection and adjust the crop lines before cropping?
himself22
Yes you can. Make any random selection using the than click the white little hand (the move selection tool or ). Move it around so it's the rectangle you want it to crop it to. Then once you're done with that just go to image- crop to selection. Is that what you mean? joegilmour
That's exactly what I meant, thank you! I was using the 'move selected pixels' tool instead of the 'move selection'... silly me! Thanks again Joe
Martel
... silly me! Thanks again Joe Actually not.. I didn't know that myself. and you can use both move selected pixels tool and the move selection with the tool.
eddyq
Another question regarding cropping. I want to crop but I want the result to be a 4x5 image so it can be printed on 4x5 paper. Is there a way to tell the program to keep a given aspect ratio while using the selection tool mentioned above?
Sarkut
While the Rectangular Selection tool is active, there is a setting in the toolbar that can be changed from Normal to either Fixed Ratio or Fixed Size.
eddyq
That doesn't seem very handy. I'm looking for something more like the method used in Microsoft Office Picture Manager. You select the frame size and then move the frame around. It is useful when cropping in order to print for a picture frame.
Sarkut
Make the selection with Fixed Size, move it around with the Move Selection tool. Edited April 30, 2010 by Sarkut
