AllenPitts
Hello Paint.net forum Trying to install a plugin to do curved text called dpyplugins8.1.zip Says to install at C:\Program Files\paint.net\Effects. But there is no C:\Program Files\paint.net. Also looked in a folder called C:\Program Files (x86). Tried right-clicking on the Paint.net icon to get its Properties but that just shows a list of open files. Did a search for paint.net. No luck. Tried doing a search for paintdotnet. It returned PaintDotNet.exe.paint.net.dotPDN LLC.4.216.7781.39227.ico which is the desktop icon. Can't install the plugin if I can't find the Effects file. Can't find the Effects file if I can't find the exe. Anybody know how to find it? Thanks. Allen in Dallas
toe_head2001
You installed Paint.NET via the Microsoft Store, and therefore don't have access to the executable. Please follow these instruction to install plugins: https://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/InstallPlugins.html#4 (September 25th, 2023) Sorry about any broken images in my posts. I am aware of the issue. My Gallery | My Plugin Pack Layman's Guide to CodeLab

Will try installing the plug in as shown inhttps://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/InstallPlugins.html#4 Do the registry changes have to be made for a plug in like dpyplugins8.1.zip? Thanks. Rick Brewster
You don't have to make any registry changes unless you're following the instructions for adding custom plugin folder locations (at the very bottom of the page). RLB
My machine with Windows 11 The MS Store version does not install using Paint.exe. It is an installed DLL you may find at this address, with some variation! It is locked and needs permission to read. C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\dotPDNLLC.paint.net_5.13.8830.0_x64__h55e3w7q8jbva In Fastsone Image Viewer I cannot use the External App to load from an image. Too Bad! I use it all the time! C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\dotPDNLLC.paint.net_5.13.8830.0_x64__h55e3w7q8jbva Microsoft have designed things so that you cannot easily find the executable for Store versions of apps. 21 minutes ago, RLB said: In Faststone Image Viewer I cannot use the External App to load from an image. Too Bad! I use it all the time! Yes you can! You should launch paint.net using the paintdotnet: protocol. See the paint.net Documentation here: https://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/paintdotnetProtocol.html You may need to create a one line batch file as shown in the documentation if Faststone Image Viewer won't let your enter the text paintdotnet: ----------- @RLB I'm locking this thread because you revived a topic that is over 2 years old. Please read the Forum Rules before posting again. Note particularly #11 - but do read them all.
