whisper2u Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 I was using PDN, and then my computer had a problem so I decided to restart it, then I came back to PDN... and right after I drew a TINY lil dot on the canvas... I receive an error report.. it always told me to refer to my pdncrash file on my desktop.. never noticing that I had that on my desktop... I check it out.. seems I can't read pdn codes or whatever, so I decided to save me the trouble and uninstall and reinstall.. but I can't do so because reinstall it such a PAIIIIN!!!!! I get this error report "Unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue.... and then in italian... "La directory o il file è danneggiato e illegible" (The directory or the file is corrupted and not leggible) even if I do click continue... i dont install it sais "label1", now... what am I going to do with "label 1" ... materfact, what does it even mean. By the way, is this even an error 1603, or whatever? edit: I tried again, I decided to copy the details that the error told me to take a look at. Please could you find the heart to tell me whats this and how I can get pdn again? << See the end of this message for details on invoking just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box. ************** Exception Text ************** System.IO.IOException: La directory o il file è danneggiato e illeggibile. at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath) at System.IO.Directory.InternalGetFileDirectoryNames(String path, String userPathOriginal, String searchPattern, Boolean includeFiles, Boolean includeDirs, SearchOption searchOption) at System.IO.Directory.GetFiles(String path, String searchPattern, SearchOption searchOption) at System.IO.Directory.GetFiles(String path, String searchPattern) at PaintDotNet.SystemLayer.FileSystem..cctor() ************** Loaded Assemblies ************** mscorlib Assembly Version: 2.0.0.0 Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.1434 (REDBITS.050727-1400) CodeBase: file:///C:/Windows/Microsoft.NET/Framework/v2.0.50727/mscorlib.dll ---------------------------------------- SetupFrontEnd Assembly Version: 3.35.3106.20187 Win32 Version: 3.35.3106.20187 CodeBase: file:///C:/Users/eb/AppData/Local/Temp/PdnSetup/SetupFrontEnd.exe ---------------------------------------- System.Windows.Forms Assembly Version: 2.0.0.0 Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.1434 (REDBITS.050727-1400) CodeBase: file:///C:/Windows/assembly/GAC_MSIL/System.Windows.Forms/2.0.0.0__b77a5c561934e089/System.Windows.Forms.dll ---------------------------------------- System Assembly Version: 2.0.0.0 Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.1434 (REDBITS.050727-1400) CodeBase: file:///C:/Windows/assembly/GAC_MSIL/System/2.0.0.0__b77a5c561934e089/System.dll ---------------------------------------- System.Drawing Assembly Version: 2.0.0.0 Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.1434 (REDBITS.050727-1400) CodeBase: file:///C:/Windows/assembly/GAC_MSIL/System.Drawing/2.0.0.0__b03f5f7f11d50a3a/System.Drawing.dll ---------------------------------------- PaintDotNet.SystemLayer Assembly Version: 3.35.3106.20178 Win32 Version: 3.35.3106.20178 CodeBase: file:///C:/Users/eb/AppData/Local/Temp/PdnSetup/PaintDotNet.SystemLayer.DLL ---------------------------------------- PaintDotNet.Base Assembly Version: 3.35.3106.20178 Win32 Version: 3.35.3106.20178 CodeBase: file:///C:/Users/eb/AppData/Local/Temp/PdnSetup/PaintDotNet.Base.DLL ---------------------------------------- PaintDotNet.Resources Assembly Version: 3.35.3106.20179 Win32 Version: 3.35.3106.20179 CodeBase: file:///C:/Users/eb/AppData/Local/Temp/PdnSetup/PaintDotNet.Resources.DLL ---------------------------------------- PaintDotNet.Core Assembly Version: 3.35.3106.20179 Win32 Version: 3.35.3106.20179 CodeBase: file:///C:/Users/eb/AppData/Local/Temp/PdnSetup/PaintDotNet.Core.DLL ---------------------------------------- Accessibility Assembly Version: 2.0.0.0 Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.1434 (REDBITS.050727-1400) CodeBase: file:///C:/Windows/assembly/GAC_MSIL/Accessibility/2.0.0.0__b03f5f7f11d50a3a/Accessibility.dll ---------------------------------------- ************** JIT Debugging ************** To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this application or computer (machine.config) must have the jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section. Rick Brewster Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Sounds like you might have some corruption in the directory that Paint.NET uses to story temporary files. You can go to Start, then Run, and then type in the following directory name and then press enter: "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Paint.NET" (In Windows Vista, you can just type that in to the "Start Search" area, if you don't have a "Run" item) Simply delete everything in there and it will hopefully go back to working. If you can't get to that directory, remove the "Paint.NET" from the name (in other words, just use "%LOCALAPPDATA%") and then see if you have a directory named Paint.NET and then delete it. In italian it sais which kind of translates impossible to continue the operation because of unexpected error. Take note of the error code that can be helfpful in case here you receive added info for solving the problem. and error0x----: the directory is empty.. Quote
whisper2u Posted July 29, 2008 Author Posted July 29, 2008 I want to come and say thank you for the help! I took your advice by heart though it want the way, I just remembered to rename the currupted file, which allowed me to reinstall pdn.... now the question... is that currupted file that I renamed...(i renamed it food... n_n) going to affect my other files? Cuz if it will.... could anyone tell me how to delete a currupted file in vista... italian or french would be fine, but I prefer it in english mostly. thankyou grazie et merçi. n_n Quote
Rick Brewster Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 The renamed directory won't affect other files. I highly recommend running chkdsk though: click to My Computer (Start -> Computer), then right click on your hard drive, then click Properties, then click on the Tools tab, then in "Error-checking" click on the "Check now" button, then click Start. You might have to let it restart so it can do a full scan without other programs interfering.
