Canvas size and Layer size

Recommended Posts

Whenever I change the canvas size of my image, my layer gets cropped and all I have left to work with is what's inside the new canvas size.

I've found a way around this where I just copy the original image, changed the canvas size, the pasted the image, but the problem comes when I have multiple layers to work with.

Is there any way to unlink canvas resizing and layer size?

Have you tried using Resize instead of Canvas Size?

The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. The most feared being in all the cosmos. And nothing could stop it, or hold it, or reason with it. One day it would just drop out of the sky and tear down your world.
Amy: But how did it end up in there?
The Doctor: You know fairy tales. A good wizard tricked it.
River Song: I hate good wizards in fairy tales; they always turn out to be him.

I don't understand what you want. The canvas size is the size of the layers, so naturally if you change the canvas size, the layers will be cropped. I'm not sure what you expect to happen,

EDIT: I think I now realize what you want. You want the visible image size to change, but the layers to be unchanged, so you can still move them around within the image boundaries. Unfortunately, that's not the way it works, and I very much doubt it ever will be.

Seems like I'll have to work around it somehow. I'll probably create a box inside of an enlarged canvas so I can separate what's seen and what isn't seen. Thanks for the reply!

Someone asked about a similar problem some time ago, and I made a plugin to draw such a rectangle. You can read my comment where I posted the plugin to understand what it does. It might be useful. One of these days I'm going to make a more finished version.
