  1. Thanks everyone ! :D It is soooooooooo good to be back ! B) B)

Most of the images have been posted. I am waiting on one more entry that I had problems with getting a good link. I will leave them posted for a couple of days so everyone can have a chance to look them over while I wait for the last one to be submitted. Enjoy ! We have some very clever entries !

If everyone could take some time and think of what you might like to see in the next round, it might help expedite things once this round goes to the polls. Please just drop a note on the WOTW Theme thread line !

UPDATE: I have added the remaining image I was waiting for. I will leave them entries up for a day or two and then post them in the poll. Thanks to everyone who entered !

  3. Not me...sorry Possum. Busy time of the year. How about extending it for a week? May get some more entries then & make it fair to those who have already entered?

Sorry mate. I've got a piece I started on but the time has flown, what with the holidays. I agree with BarbieQ' that few days extra would be nice

Same here. The cutoff has already passed and I'm still working on mine. :/ Sounds like a good idea to me. I'll extend it another week from tonight. Thanks for the input ! :D

  6. And the US gave us Friends ... how evil is that :P

    Oh, the horror !

    Idea: Surrealist Landscapes.

How about create your own movie poster it could be for a real upcoming movie or an imaginary one, Paintdotnet the movie starring Brad Pitt as Rick Brewster. :)

I see these ideas both as themes in a comp more than stand alone competitions. Both are great ideas though. I just don't see them as long term comps. I think that "Surrealist Landscapes" has the best shot as being a long term comp because you would be able to have more variety from week to week. I do think it does deserve further discussion. I can think of a few theme ideas for it already.

I have had Fictional Movie posters on my idea list for some time but have never had the courage to pull the trigger on it for fear of a low turnout. I see it as a photo manipulation comp that could be used several times in different ways, but hard to keep people coming back long term. Hey, I could be wrong though. Maybe that's what we need here to spark more interest in the comps, a few that would run for a few weeks then be replaced by something else. I do have some ideas for it if you want to pursue it. I would also be willing to have it as a theme for the WOTW to see how the response is. If it works out well and there are a lot of entries, then you could spin it off to it's own comp.

  7. The winners announced !

Thanks to you who entered and to those of you who voted !

The next round will begin later today. It will be a winter related theme. :D

  8. I'd like to be reasonably confident that someone is responsible enough to run a competition before letting them do so. It's no fun to enter a contest and then wait 6 months before the host finally gets around to tallying the votes.

That's understandable, I will stick around for longer first and then perhaps try to think of an idea, thanks all the same pyrochild :)

btw - why do you hate socks? :D

You might try entering some of the comps, that is a great way for people to get to know you and your artwork. It also helps to know how the comps work when you participate in a a few of them. Opening a gallery is very helpful, but posting some of your works in the umbrella threads is also a great way to get noticed. It's all about participation in the community. We all have our strengths that we can offer to others to help out.

I think we should all create some snow globes!!! :)

No. If there is anything more evil than socks, it's snow globes. (and maybe British sitcoms, American politicians, and my evil twin)

  9. Thanks everyone for your comment and kind words.

Didn't post here for long time,

Although I hate weapons, but this is a brand new, never been used ;) :

    th_spikeball-brandnew.jpg

I love how you hid your signature in the blocks. Very nice !

  10. You are not play Possum, you are alive and kicking! This is a great body of production. It will take a while to view it all. Your work is beautiful, skillful, and interesting. Enuff Sayd!!!

Well thank you! I thought I had been forgotten about. You must have had to dig way back in the gallery to find me.:D

  11. After two weeks there are only three entries. Well, we'll go with what we have. All three are beautiful and very glassy! Check out the poll at the top of the page and please vote ! These artists worked very hard on their entries, so please so them their due and VOTE !

  12. Wow and yikes ... what a great idea - also a challenging one :)

    Nice one mate

Thanks ! Hope to see you enter.

I just saw this! Very unique idea. Thank you for the contest and thank you for giving us until December 11th to submit. This will be fun and challenging, the best kind!

*Edit: I have finished two and trying to decide which one to submit.

I think you should enter both.

  15. Sorry to leave everyone hanging. I needed some time off. I'm ready to get back to the WOTW if anyone is interested. I can backtrack on this thread an choose a theme or if anyone has a new idea, please post it in this thread.

Continued from the previous WOTW 37 Discussion Thread......

Your enthusiasm is not in question. I believe you're a massive asset to the forum!

If the competitions are poorly patronized, then let them go cold for a while and then bring them back at a later stage to see if interest has improved.

Personally I feel there are too many competitions for the total number of people submitting entries. If there was ONE monthly competition I bet entries would improve. So how about quietly (or not so quietly) murdering a couple of competitions and allowing the winner of the next comp to select both the theme and the type of competition?

For what you do here.... thank you.

Thank you, I appreciate your feeling that the comps are an asset to the forum. I completely agree! I feel your suggestions have much merit and have spent the time away thinking about them quite a bit. I agree that at this time, we do have too many comps and for that reason, I have decided to go back to something I mentioned several months ago. I'm going to combine all of the comps I host into the WOTW comp. Each WOTW comp will have a style and a theme. The style being the previously separate SAC or Photo Manip comps along with Realism, Abstract, Typography, and other styles that may be chosen to fit a particular theme. The theme will be chosen from suggestions made on this thread by all the interested parties involved. I think in many cases a month might be too long a period for most themes so I plan on keeping the two week format going for now, with a three week or month long comp thrown in when the difficulty of the theme warrants. This in no way is intended to limit the other comps hosted by other members as they are free to run their comps in the way they see fit. This is only for the WOTW comp that I have been hosting for some time. It is my hope that it will help me to better manage this comp and give it my full attention.
