  1. Oh, so it did. I saw the 5 KB in File Explorer instead of 4.33 KB here and assumed that it was wrong. Thank you. This might need a fix of some sort considering that many people are suspicious of .exe and .msi files that are often given to the user when they try to download a .zip from sketchy sites, and I definitely don't want this forum to get that reputation.
  2. Hello, I have an issue whether, no matter if I am logged in or not, an attached .zip such as here: It downloads as a 5kb .msi file. Not only is the extension wrong, but we can see in the attachment size that it's not 5 kilobytes either, so I can't get around this just by changing the file extension. It seems like the correct file is not being downloaded at all.
  3. Allow me to chime in and say the exact same thing happened, even in 4.2.10. Pressed print by mistake, quickly Xed out of it, then PDN isn't responding.
  4. Oh I have a new idea after looking at the shortcut documentation. You know how the arrow keys already move the selected tool 1px? Well, "Pixel Drawer" should be a tool. Use # as the cursor when using this tool. When using the pixel drawer tool, the keyboard shortcuts for switching tools are disabled until you manually use the mouse to click on a new tool, so that QWASZX can be used for placing pixels down under the tool cursor while this tool is selected. Now there won't be any shortcut key conflicts.
  5. Instead of making the area for the words and pictures smaller, just start with one circle and then add circles that are bigger than that one. That way you'll keep the original amount of space inside the first circle. You will just add bigger circles around the original area
  6. Oh I forgot to mention. "Keyboard Mode"/"Pixel Art Mode" would be a toggleable setting in the settings window. So that the Z, X, A, S, Q, and W keys are switched from their normal bindings (Z switches to the Zoom tool and X swaps the primary and secondary colours) to the bindings I suggested if you set this setting to "on". Sorry that I requested it in this configuration but if you put your left hand on Z/X and right hand on the arrows, you'll notice it's quite comfortable; so that's why I requested these particular shortcuts.
  7. You can indeed use the mouse wheel to zoom. At least, when I pinch and move on my laptop trackpad, it zooms the image in and out.
  8. This is actually a smart idea. Add me to the supporter list
  9. Right... just erase the colors on the wings (either with eraser tool or via using magic wand + Delete key), then copy paste the Jamaican flag as a new layer. Go to layers and click to move down the new layer to below the background layer. Now you can move around the Jamaican flag underneath the wing outline using the "Move" tool until it looks just right.
  10. I have a laptop trackpad. While that should tell you enough about how well I can draw using a mouse, I also have wobbly hands that would not be aided in drawing by a handheld mouse or a stylus. How else could I draw? Here's an idea - drawing with the keyboard keys! Similar to using a chisel and hammer, this allows for fine detail work - exactly what suits the art I want to draw, which is pixel art. No need to use my mouse to draw a sweeping mountainscape anyways when the graphics are so small. The keyboard drawing would work on the normal cursor system. You use the arrow keys like normal to move up, down, left, and right. You will then use certain keys to either change the color of the pixel you are above, or change your primary/secondary color. My proposed controls: Up, down, left, right - move the cursor selection one pixel in the specified direction. This is already in Paint.NET, but I wanted to say it again to show how good an idea I think it is to flesh this out. X - change current pixel (the one your mouse is on) to the primary color. Z - change current pixel to the secondary color. (optional but would be appreciated) L - move the brush's primary color one left in the 96-color palette R - move the brush's primary color one right in the palette Q - move the brush's secondary color one left in the palette W - move the brush's secondary color one right in the palette Also note how the primary/secondary colours being easily usable on two keys side-by-side is useful for either outlining a shape and filling it in, adding two levels of shading into a shape that you have already outlined, or adding light and dark shading colours to a neutral color that you have already painted. If it's too hard, I can live without using keys to change what color you have selected. All I really need is using X and Z to place down primary/secondary colour at mouse location. Sorry if this is a detailed request, but no editor I've ever seen before has this - PabloDraw and Open Hamster RPG Engine's graphics editors sort of have placement of pixels using keyboard, but they have woogly proportions and size restrictions owing to them being more specific tools than Paint.NET (ASCII art maker and RPG engine). So this, if implemented, would allow for a more general-purpose usage including how Paint.NET has layers, transparent colours, and more. I don't mind if this is implemented in the main program or as a plugin. Thanks for reading all this if you got down here!
  11. I know this topic is old, but I'd like to agree with this, as much as I appreciate using the arrow keys for pixel precision, it's a little hand crampy to hold my left hand on the mousepad so I can use left or right click to place down pixels.
  12. Can mod please change the title to reversed "Turn Selection to the Most Used Color in it (Plugin Request)" since it is hard to see from the forum homepage. Thank you
  13. Hello, I have a plugin request, the attached image should explain it. I don't need color+transparencies to count as individual colors, just the color data. This will be helpful for my special method of resizing images which has better results than nearest neighbor but which it's very tedious to count the pixels in each region so I'm requesting just a ctrl+f that can recolor each region for me. Thank you.
  14. By the way, here is another example image (the left one is 32x32px). It is horizontally and vertically symmetrical (one quadrant mirrored for the other three). It is another sprite from Link to the Past before anyone accuses me of not giving credit You can see that resizing it to 50% ruins the symmetrical nature of it. Interestingly, I realized through tests, that if I resize it to 15x15, it looks resized great. It is perfectly symmetrical, well that is if you add in the top row and left column of pixels yourself, but still looks much better. I hope that this is helpful to narrowing down the problem. @Rick Brewster
  15. Here you go. This image is horizontally symmetric, so that's how I could tell that if the downscaled image to 12 pixels wide, which is a multiple of two like 14 is, was not symmetric then that seemed like an issue.
  16. I would like to report an apparent glitch with the Resize Image "Nearest Neighbor" algorithm when downscaling. https://i.imgur.com/K3C7Z47.png As you can see in this image, the sprite I am downscaling is symmetrical, though I have no doubt this could affect the downscaling of nonsymmetrical sprites as well. When I downscaled the sprite (shown here rescaled for detail) from 14x16 to 12x16, it lost its symmetricality, which seems like a glitch. Oddly enough, the apparently different Nearest Neighbor algorithm used for scaling selections does not have this glitch. If this behavior is not intended and you need more examples, I will be happy to help as I use Paint.NET for pixel art all the time.
  17. Hi there! So you know this plugin pack, http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?showtopic=16643 with 1px expansion dll? Well, it currently does [] [] [] [] -> [] [] [] [] [] [] to the layer when it expands, meaning they have square edges. But what I need it to be modified to, is [] [] -> [] [] [] [] So the layer has a smooth diagonal. This is better for expanding a layer for me, because the lineart is more smooth and not square/lowres. Thank you to anyone who modifies this!
  18. Thanks guys! Ego's solution works great! You guys helped me tons!
  19. Thanks. It appears that that has a smoother effect, though I am working with tiny pixel sprites so that wouldn't work in my game idea's resolution. Any particular reason why I can't at least test out Coarseness=2?
  20. Hi there. On the Oil Painting Effect, is there any way to set Coarseness to 2 or lower? Thank you.
