cropping - cooky cutter

Could not find a way to predefine an area for cropping or selecting a method for setting a heigt and width one could slide over an image thus selecting an area with a fixed size(cooky cutter). This would be a valuable addition to this amazing software. Like holding the camera again and selecting the best possible view. I'm sure many wou like this option.

You can do this in Paint.Net!

(or at least I hope I understand your request...)

First, simply select an area of the size you want. Then click on the "Move Selection" button which is next to the "Lasso Select" button.

Then, you can slide the selection around on the image. (like, as you say, pointing the camera differently)

If you want to change the size of the selection, hold Shift on the keyboard and then drag the corners of the selection box around. (like, as you would say, zooming the camera differently)

When you are satisfied with its placement, you can press "Ctrl-Shift-X" to crop out everything except the selection.

What I want from Crop Tool (or may be Selection - does not matter) - is an ability to fix selection proportions.

What I mean - when I print a photo in the lab, it have standart proportions, usually 2:3 (4x6, 10x15, 20x30 etc).

The Crop Tool in Photoshop or in Canon Raw Converter allow me to fix proportions, while selecting crop area. So I just drag mouse, selecting interesting view in photo, and do not think about proportions at all - they will be always correct.

It's nice. And I miss it greatly in Paint.Net - the FAQ advise "to look at status bar, where size of crop area is show" - is not nearly as good:

1. It's boring - to look at status bar and try to select exactly 10x15cm, not 10.5x14.2 ;-/

2. I do not interesting in selection exacly 10x15cm while cropping - I need to select in proportion 2x3, and I can rescale it to exact size (10x15cm or 20x30cm) later...

Try making your selection at the needed ratio first in small unit sizes, like 4px x 3px, then use the Move Selection tool to scale the selection up while holding [shift]. It will then always stay at a 4:3 ratio, regardless of size.
