Mike Ryan
There are many methods you could use, but I recommend using Conditional Hue/ Saturation

Curmudgeon
If you don't already have the plugin, you can get it here: http://paintdotnet.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=1102 It has built-in instructions on the lower right section of the UI. Basically, you define the color you want to change, so say your car is red, you would use the color wheel and define the red color by selecting the red hue range, and then using the hue actions on the right, you could change it to other colors by using the 'add' or 'set' radio buttons, or change the saturation (i.e. intensity). You can use it on the entire image, or on a certain selection. Play with it; practice with it; it's a very useful tool.
