Andy Barr
FAQ no joy. Paint.net 2.6 C2: Upgraded to C2 from C1 yesterday. C2 will not OPEN .jpg files residing in C: drive folders and locks up requiring a Task Manager End Process action. C2 will open .jpg's on D:. If C: files and folders are moved to D: they will open. This was not a problem in C1. Thanks for your attention. -Andy
Rick Brewster
Have you installed any other applications or utilities recently? This doesn't sound like a Paint.NET problem, but rather something caused by another program (esp. one that hooks into the Explorer shell), or some configuration changes. Andy Barr
One program was added about the same time as C2 - not sure if before or after. However, I just removed it, powered down and rebooted. No joy - still doesn't "Open" C:\drv files, but will if they are moved to D:\. I have read in the forum that there is a .LOG file to capture events (& errors). I haven't found it - please ID it for me. When I d/l'd 2.6 C1 I used the mirror with the .NET 2.0. In d/ling 2.6 C2 I didn't use that .NET 2.0 combo. Do you think that may have something to do with this? Should I d/l the whole thing again? How about my cleaning house and starting fresh (takes time to clean registry). BTW: It wouldn't hurt to mention in the pre-D/L area if a old version removal is required... not finding any info I assumed (read "hoped") that it would write over, etc. an existing version. Any help appreciated. Andy
Rick Brewster
I have read in the forum that there is a .LOG file to capture events (& errors). I haven't found it - please ID it for me.The file, pdncrash.log, would be on your desktop if Paint.NET had crashed on you. Since Paint.NET hasn't crashed, you won't have the log file. I don't believe it would help at all in this situation. When I d/l'd 2.6 C1 I used the mirror with the .NET 2.0. In d/ling 2.6 C2 I didn't use that .NET 2.0 combo. Do you think that may have something to do with this?Nope. You already have .NET installed. The only thing the "full" installer does is make it a lot easier for people to get .NET installed. Once it's installed you don't need to download or install it again.Should I d/l the whole thing again?Right click on the file you downloaded, click on Properties, then go to the "Digital Signatures" tab. Click on the only item in the list that comes up ("Eric Brewster") and then click the Details button. Another dialog box will come up, and as long as you see the text "This digital signature is OK" near the top of it, then your download was just fine (it's not corrupt or anything) and there's no reason to download it again. How about my cleaning house and starting fresh (takes time to clean registry).I have no idea if this would help. Like I said, I believe this is an application compatibility issue caused by something else on your system. We just use the standard "File Open" dialog that almost every program uses.
