How do I create a solid text background

Recommended Posts

Place your text on it's own layer and then add a new layer under your text layer. (like racerx said)

Then you can use his suggested way of doing things, or....

You can use the "Shapes" tool and set it's Draw/fill mode to "Draw Filled Shape". (note, using the arrow keys on your keyboard can help you move things one pixel at a time. This is useful when aligning objects or shapes.)

Or, you can use the "line/curve" tool. Just change it's width/thickness and have it's end caps set to "flat".
