File Recovery

Recommended Posts

Oops, oops, and a triple ooops. I've lost many paint.net files by accidently deleting them-permanently. They are not in the Recycle bins. Is there a file recovery program that supports the pdn file type?

Windows has that stuff built-in nowadays.

In 7 it's called Previous Versions,

http://www.howtogeek.com/56891/use-windows-7s-previous-versions-to-go-back-in-time-and-save-your-files/

In 8 it's called File History. Just search for it on the start screen.

If you have XP, then you're way overdue for an upgrade.

'nuff said.

After I saved my file, I went to open it and it is blank.  While working, I had added layers, then deleted them.  Did I need to still flatten the background layer?  Is there a way I can "rewind" and correct this issue?

I seem to remember reading a forum post about this in the past.

Thanks!

Hi mcpool5 - welcome!

Is there a way I can "rewind" and correct this issue?

If Ricks suggestion above doesn't work then the information is lost.

If you have only one layer, flattening prior to saving is not necessary.

Thank you Ego,

I will try the File History.  I am still trying to get used working with Windows 8, so I appreciate the update.  Luckily it was a simple yard sign design.  Most of the time I spent working on the original file was playing with colors and fonts.

I re-created it quickly using my original file (not the one I lost), but this will definitely be useful in the future.

Btw, I realize that this is off topic, but since I am new I am going to ask.

I spend a great deal of time editing GIS parcel maps for a volunteer position.  Do you know of any forums dedicated to mapping, using Paint.net?

Oh, and thank you for the quick response!
