Smart Objects Plugin, does this exist?

Recommended Posts

Hey all-

First of all thanks to everyone for this forum it's been very helpful.

I want to buy a text creator and it says that i need cs2 or higher.

They are psd files and i have installed the psd file reading plugin

but i need to be able to edit these files using smart objects.

I haven't heard of this before so i emailed the author of the text

creator and he explained that smart objects can be used to edit

all the layers at once.

I was wondering if there was any kind of a plugin that would do this

or if there is another tool that we have that can do this?

Thanks in advance for any help I can get on this.

Tony

PS Thanks again to everyone for all the help and sorry for the few

times i've posted incorrectly when trying to use this forum

Plugins can only modify the selected layer. If paint.net were to have smart objects, Rick would have to add them himself.

Thanks pdnnoob-

I didn't think it would work but I thought I would give it a shot hoping

maybe someone had a work-around.

I do appreciate you explaining this.

No problem. I don't actually use smart objects in photoshop myself, so I don't have any workarounds for you off the top of my head. I'll let you know if I figure something out.

EDIT: information I found on smart objects: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Photoshop/11.0/WSCCBCA4AB-7821-4986-BC03-4D1045EF2A57a.html

From what I can tell, smart objects are just layers where photoshop saves the original image and allows you to basically "edit your edits" after they are applied.

That said, you can get close to duplicating the effect by making back-up layers. In other words, just duplicate the layer and set one duplication to "not visible".

I'm not sure how you can use smart objects to "edit all the layers at once" like this guy told you. Perhaps if you could link to this text creator, I could figure out what he means.

EDIT2: I just noticed this was a discussion about photoshop (against forum rules D: )...would you mind continuing the discussion in a pm?
