Rick Brewster
We don't do lossless JPEG rotation; that's not the way Paint.NET works at all. If you want to do that, just use the built-in Windows XP preview feature and click the rotate buttons at the bottom. Rick Brewster
It's perfectly valid to use the 2-layer and Difference blending mode approach to check for compression differences. When you save with Paint.NET you're recompressing the image. It's going through the JPEG encoding and compression process all over again so this is expected behavior. We don't treat JPEGs with any special regard when we load them. It is possible for a program to load a JPEG and do a lossless rotation on it, but this feature of the JPEG specification was never intended to be used by general image editors such as Paint.NET, Paint, or Photoshop. The built-in Windows XP preview/rotate feature apparently does not allow lossless rotation on certain types or sizes of images.
