kamosan
Hi, is there any way to permanently change the default measurement unit for the rectangular select tool from Inches to Pixels so that the program remembers this next time it starts up? I know this can be changed temporarily in the tool's drop list menu but the unit is reversed to Inches when the program is restarted.. Thanks in advance for feedback, K Edited August 25, 2010 by kamosan
Sarkut
There's a Choose Defaults... option at the top of the tools drop-down. Choose Defaults Edited August 25, 2010 by Sarkut
Rick Brewster
The units selected in the toolbar are always persisted. You don't have to use Choose Tool Defaults If it isn't being saved then you probably have an issue with your registry permissions or something. Not Paint.NET's fault. kamosan
There's a Choose Defaults... option at the top of the tools drop-down. Choose Defaults Hi, thanks for the answer. Please correct me if I am wrong, but if I have understood correctly, the "Choose Defaults" is part of the 4.0 release UI? I am running version 3.5.5 on a windows 7 x64 machine and unfortunately I cannot see a similar defaults option. Looks good though, I look forward to using this new UI.. Sarkut
Sorry. The "4.0 release UI" is just a little joke I sometimes add to my screenshots. It doesn't exist. That defaults option will show if you temporarily switch from Normal to Fixed Size in the Choose Defaults... window. Rick Brewster's post indicates that changing that setting may not give the desired result anyway. Try it and see, but don't be surprised if it doesn't do the job. I am running Paint .NET v3.5.5 logged in as administrator on a Windows 7 x64 machine, and as far as I am aware, I have full access to the registry and can modify any key freely. After reading your reply I checked the registry entries for Paint.NET that I am aware of, namely those in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Paint.NET and those in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Paint.NET. However, I cannot identify what key/value sets the defaults unit for the select tool. The only key that seems related to units is LastNonPixelUnits but it doesn't do what I am looking for. Could you please advise as to what registry key should be set to what value to set the default unit for the select tool to Pixel? Thanks a lot in advance for your feedback and for a great app!
