Text: spacing of characters (kerning or tracking)

hello,

I´m new to paint.net and have limited understanding of layers and masks. I need to reproduce some text with the characters closer together. I read in a very old thread that you would have to use layers to do that, as paint.net doesnt support kerning or tracking - but I´m not sure how to do that with layers : would I need to have a seperate layer for each letter and then select and move the letters one by one and then merge all the layers? Is there a better way? I´d be very grateful if someone could give me a tip on how to do this.

You don't need to do every letter on a separate layer. Write your text, then use the selection tools and the Move Selected Pixels tool to move the letters to the spacing you desire.

to add on to what pyrochild said, when using the move selected pixels tool if you have a jittery hand or mouse, you can click on the selection with your mouse, and then move it with your cursor keys
