System.FormatException: file is not a valid paint.net document

Recommended Posts

I need some help... Does anyone know why my PDN is giving me this error? I just finished a small project. Saved the PDN. Then I saved as a JPG. When I went to send the JPG, it did not exist, only the PDN existed. I then tried to open the PDN to resave as JPG and now I get this error.

You may have messed with the file extension when saving, so your .PDN file may actually be a JPG image.

Please try to change the file extension, and see if it will open.  Ex:  myImage.pdn  ->  myImage.jpg

(September 25th, 2023)  Sorry about any broken images in my posts. I am aware of the issue.

It does open, but why did that happen?

It can happen if you manually change the extension in the Save dialog, rather than choosing the format from the dropdown.

Where is my PDN with layers now?

Sounds like you've overwritten it with your JPG. :(
