Been using it for years and it is just worth every penny. After installing and trying to start via the tile that's created on Win10 (1703, Build 15063.632I) I'm presented with the attached pop-up which disappears again after a second and paint.net not starting up. The path "D:\..." is weird as it doesn't exist and I've got no idea where that could come from. Starting the "PaintDotNet.exe" directly from it's install location "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\dotPDNLLC.paint.net_4.18.6473.0_x64__h55e3w7q8jbva" works fine though. That's not good at all. Unfortunately we're only getting the exception for the folder creation failure, not the crash that actual caused this to happen. What happens if you manually create the "paint.net App Files" folder (without quotes) in your Documents folder, and then relaunch Paint.NET? I actually had created the "paint.net App Files" folder before the first start of the app. For now I'm just starting the .exe in the ..\WindowsApps\dot... folder Anything else I can do to further analyze the problem? Rick Brewster Posted September 30, 2017 Share Posted September 30, 2017 Try this instead: 1) delete the "paint.net App Files" folder (or just rename it of course) 2) start up the app from the tile -- does it work? 3) if that worked, go to Settings (gear icon at top right) -> Diagnostics -> then at the bottom, click on "Open crash log folder" Clicking on that link will cause Paint.NET to create the folder itself. Maybe then the permissions for it will be correct and things will proceed correctly. It's a shot in the dark though ... One thing though as the machine is a domain member and there's folder redirection in place ... might that cause trouble? I started the .exe and checked the crash log folder the way you described it. (It's getting an Access Denied error... wat?!) "Naturally" the only 2 users having access rights (full control) on the redirected folder are "System" and the logged in user. What context is the app running in when started via the app tile? There may be some things that the tile is configuring differently for the process' startup environment but I really have no idea. Try booting up Process Explorer and inspect PaintDotNet.exe, even when it's just showing you that crash dialog. Compare it to running the exe directly. You might see something ... (to "inspect" it, just double click on PaintDotNet.exe in the list. Then, look at ... the Security tab, I guess?)
