B0b1
Hi and thank you for providing paint.net, I'm a regular user. I read that the forum is one of the places you can post a bug report, and thought it might be useful if others are having a similar issue, and to see if it's just me or not. I read the guidelines and searched in there for info on an appropriate place in the forums to put a bug report, but couldn't find anything, so hopefully it's ok here. Please move it it's not right - I'm completely new here. So, the bug: I just upgraded to 10.0.17 and suddenly I could not save as .png anymore - it causes Paint.net to crash and also totally locks up my VM (I run paint.net on a VM). I tried with a new file, copied two layers from the original pdn into the new file, then tried save as .png from there and the same thing happened. I downgraded to 10.0.13 (uninstalled .17 and re-installed .13) and still got the same problem. (At this stage I would have just reverted to a snapshot of my VM, but found I had not taken one recently enough ) The following worked: 1) uninstall paint.net 2) scrub the registry of anything containing PaintDotNet 3) reboot 4) re-install paint.net (10.0.13) Now, *relief*, I can save as .png again. It seems there may be a registry setting with 10.0.17 which is causing the problem. Is anyone else having this or a similar issue? eg., saving as to other formats in 10.0.17? Rick Brewster
It's probably not related to the version of Paint.NET What happens if you disable your antivirus? I've seen a few cases of Windows Defender causing either really bad performance or outright app hangs Quote The Paint.NET Blog: https://blog.getpaint.net/ Donations are always appreciated! https://www.getpaint.net/donate.html
B0b1
I'm not using any antivirus on the VM - I virus-check any downloads on my host first and if clean then....oh wait, yeah, it's got Windows Defender on it. Forgot about that. I could snapshot it in this working state and retest the upgrade with Defender turned off...just a bit reluctant now that I'm up and running again. Give me some time, I just need to make some progress with current projects and then I'll do the above and come back to you with the result. Rick Brewster
How many processors/CPUs do you have assigned to the VM? Is it 1? If so, does it start working if you assign 2+ cores to the VM? (Many VMs default to 1 core. I'm not sure I've been testing with only 1 core, and maybe there's a deadlock lurking in the code somewhere...) B0b1
It's got 4 cores allocated (and 6GB RAM). Host has 8 cores HT (and 32GB RAM). The issue hasn't re-occurred since I went back to .13.
