otariidae
When it comes to drawing, I need the pixel-perfect precision of the old brush behavior to get the desired results I want. Please bring back the old brush behavior. Edited April 4, 2017 by otariidae
Rick Brewster
You don't use antialiasing or hardness? With AA + a non-100% Hardness setting, the current implementation makes a lot of sense. However, it looks like the aliased + 100% hardness (which is implied if AA is off) setting may need some improvement. What you're seeing is an effect of something calling spacing (Photoshop's term). It is hard coded in Paint.NET to be a certain proportion of the brush size (like 20% or something), and is not currently adjustable in the UI. otariidae
Yeah, I use an entirely unfiltered brush for my drawings. It's simultaneously a decision to assist my editing workflow and an aesthetic preference. A largely sized brush with precision is mainly important to me for erasing and merging line brushstrokes. Rick Brewster
Okay. If I automatically reset spacing to 1 for non-antialiased (aka alised) brushes, this might just be the right fix for you so you can upgrade to 4.0. Rick Brewster
btw to further explain the issue you're seeing at the top, where you say that the brush doesn't always immediately paint what's under the mouse: The way to think about this is that the brush doesn't render a new stamp until your mouse has moved a certain distance. Which is hardcoded right now at, iirc, 20% of the brush size. So a 100 brush size means you have to move the mouse 20 pixels -- in any direction -- before a new stamp is placed on the canvas. This is important for soft brushes because otherwise all of that "softness" gets accumulated and saturated too much and you lose the soft effect. 1 Quote The Paint.NET Blog: https://blog.getpaint.net/ Donations are always appreciated! https://www.getpaint.net/donate.html
