crispness of simple image

I am wondering how to make the crispest possible icon type image, such as a single letter monogram or a word or two.  These look clear on the paint.net work space, but often have a blur to them and some faint discoloration in the field surrounding the image when uploaded to Craigslist.  Is this something I can control?  Is it a text size or transparency or layers issue, or something else?

 

Another way to describe the issue may be this:  how do you achieve a photo quality type image in paint.net?  These tend to appear more clear on Craigslist.

What file type are you saving them as? Try saving the original image as a PNG file. No point in saving the .JPG as a .PNG as you've already lost a lot of info.
