This plugin (yes one of mine sorry Pdnnoob) may help with rendering ellipses - set the exponent to 2.

However, I think you may be better off using a font for aesthetic reasons.

    Good luck!

    Red ochre.....

    Now that is really effective!!!

    Thanks....

I agree...using a font would be the best option...but the "e" shape I want is very distinctive and I haven't yet seen anything close...have you?

    Regards

    Greg

  2. You could always duplicate the E onto another layer and then "move" the duplicated part to where you want it, you could also try drop shadow or outline object plug-ins to help you out, links http://forums.getpai...?showtopic=8375 and this http://forums.getpai...?showtopic=4923 not really sure if this is what you mean.

OK...I drew the rest of the "e" in by hand (very rough) to show what I mean...see attached

  3. Thanks pdnnoob and nitenurse79....I finally got it.....

    Just another thing....

My intention is to create the "e" elliptical shape as per my first two thumbnails....

So now I have the the ellipse....I figure that the best thing is to "draw in" the other parts of the "e" and then erase the bits not needed...

but I need to know if there is plugin that can "draw" elliptical line segments?

Hopefully you get what I mean...

  4. to make a rotated shape, add a new layer, draw the shape and select it, then right click and drag with the move tool.

    Hey pdnnoob,

Ok tried to follow your instructions....but confused.....

    Couple of questions:

-I created an ellipse on a new layer, but how do you select it? It disappears!!!

-What is supposed to happen when I right click?

-The move tool just expands or reduces the size of the shape....

    What am I doing wrong?

    Regards

  5. I'd trawl through Dafont for a font that you like. You can put in the text you want to see how it would look. Layers/rotate/Zoom is a good thing to use & also the Trail plugin for the 3D. Have you had a look through the text tutorials for something close to what you want? It might give you ideas on how to proceed or even a style you like. I know there are 3D text tutes. The search function will be your best friend :)

Thanks for your input Barbie Q,

Yeah I have been looking at the Dafont website....

And I've looked at some of the text tuts here....

What I'm battling with is the creation of those elliptical shapes to create a custom "e"....If you look at the first thumbnail you'll see what I mean.

Are you aware of any plugins that will create shapes?

The fonts can always be added to the shape afterwards....

Or am I approaching this all wrong?

  6. Hi there,

I'm creating a new website for a new client and they asked me to come up with some ideas for a new logo...

I've created a load of pencil sketches and now want to create a couple of logos using PDN...

I must confess that I'm battling with translating my ideas into PDN....

The company is called "Triple e"

Most of my designs require either circular (sort of) or elliptical variations of the letter "e"

    Essentially I need:

    - to create the ellipse lying at an angle....

    - to create certain parts in 3D

Take a look at these hand drawn ideas and please tell me where to find the right tutorials etc

In fact any help you can give me will be appreciated.

    Best regards

    Greg

  7. I downloaded the one linked to in the first post of this thread (shapegradient1_5.zip)

Unzipping it gives you the file shapegradient.dll.

Move/copy this to your Paint.NET/Effects folder and restart Paint.NET.

Q: you're using the latest version of Paint.NET right? (3.5.10)

That is exactly the process I followed each time....with every version (obviously one at a time and deleting one before installing another)

    But it just doesn't appear....

    Yes I am using Paint.NET right? (3.5.10)

    Any ideas?

  8. Thanks Ego Eram Reputo,

    I've found out that much....

The problem is that I've downloaded and installed all the different versions of the plugin (one at a time) and when I then fired up PDN and Shaped Gradient is not there!!!

The version that Red Ochre suggested was 1.3....which is the last one I tried....no success...

So the question is - How do I fix this?

Should I uninstall PDN? If so, how do I make sure that I can re-instate all the plugins that I have?

    Any ideas?

    Regards

    Greg

  9. I seem to remember that version 1.3 was the only one I had much success with, so I'd give that one a go - the link is somewhere in that thread.

I would probably delete (or move) the 1.5 version.

    Good luck!

Found and installed version 1.3 and still no luck....

    Drats....

Just to check....upon firing up PDN and selecting Effects > Selections ....you are saying that Shapedgradient should appear as one of the options...is that correct?

    Greg

  10. Hello there,

I downloaded and installed the Shaped Gradient Plugin from here:

    http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/19651-shaped-gradient-my-first-plugin/

Installed in the Effects folder as per usual.

When I restarted PDN (several times) and I just can't seem to find where the plugin is.

I have been through the Effects and submenus with a fine tooth comb each time but it's not there....

    Should I be looking elsewhere?

Or do you have any suggestions?

    Using Paint.NET v3.5.10 (Final Release build 3.510.4297.28964)

    Appreciate your help...

    Regards

    Greg

  11. Read the link I posted above.

All DPI does is specify a conversion ratio between pixels and inches. If someone asks that you provide them with a 300 DPI image, that's only part of the story. You must also ask them what size they want. 8 inches by 4 inches, or perhaps 3 inches by 1.5 inches? Maybe 80 inches by 1/10th of an inch?

Usually when someone is asking you for "300 DPI" what they really mean is, "it needs to be high enough resolution so that it looks good when I print it." That's all.

For example, the "paint.net" logo you see at the top of this forum is 320 pixels by 106 pixels. If you want to print this out so that it appears approximately 1 inch wide, then you can set it to 300 DPI and that'd be fine. Or you could use this, http://skizatch.devi...rt.com/#/dtjyct , especially if you need more detail.

    Thanks Rick....

I finally worked it all out and finished the new advert....came out really well...

And the design house was happy....lol

    Regards

    Greg
