Nice job Ash, Buzzkill, cjmc! BuzzKill, yours looks especially spiffy...how did you end up making it look so...retro? :? I guess what I mean is that the faded look is incredibly realistic. Nice job!
Thanks
The faded/worn/dirty look is clouds(sepcot) zoomed in w/noise. The blend mode was switched to multiply.

^ Looks good
The text doesn't quite look right. I think if the text were flat (no drop shadow/less detail) it would look more professional.

Also, I would like to see the Expand/Keep Canvas Size dialog associated with this function as well.

Only if you actually enter this time 'round

It would be nice if Import From File... would add the imported file above the selected layer in the layers window. Just like the newly implemented action for Add New Layer.
-
Here's what I tried: Open File #1 (it's now in the Background layer); add a new layer, this now shows as Layer 2 in the Layers dialog; open File #2. This doesn't seem to be right, File #2 is now labeled as Background, and Layer 2 disappears from the dialog.
Any help appreciated.
After you have your first image open, instead of adding a new layer for the second image, use Import From File. You can find this option in the Layers menu. After you have imported, use the arrows in the layers window to move that layer where you'd like it.
EDIT: For information on how layers work, read up on it here.

Speaking of complex fonts, anybody having trouble selecting Stoned Wash 6 (if you have it)? It seems that the first couple of times I try to select it, some other random font gets selected in its place. It usually takes me 3 or more tries untill it's actually selected.

In a somewhat related question, is the forum supposed to mark all threads read on logout?
Yessir.

Ok, I see what you are asking for. The only way to do this with PDN is to scan different portions of your image, saving each portion individually, untill all areas of your image have been scanned. After that, you'll have import each portion onto a canvas large enough to encompass each portion. For example, if you have 4 portions that are 2x2, you'll need a canvas area of 4x4 inorder see all 4 portions side by side, top to bottom.

When you say "merge", we think of combining layers. From your question, I gather this is not what you are asking for. It sounds like you looking for an automated process that combines smaller images inorder to make a larger image as a whole, kinda like a collage. Is this what you are asking for? If so, then NO. PDN has no such feature. If that's not what you're asking about, please clarify further.

That's the problem with opinions... Everybody's got one...

Center your object within the canvas area. If your object is centered, it will come out like my avatar. It's all about the placement of your object.

Isn't right... as in?

Nice update!

Run PDN
Take a screen cap
Paste (keep original canvas size)
Draw a selection
Crop
Add new layer
Draw an ellipse (outline)
Add drop shadow
Flatten
File > Save as (png)
Open a different image
Previously saved image automatically closes

Save the .dll in the EFFECTS folder in your Paint.NET directory. The next time you run PDN, you'll notice it in the Adjustments menu.
Read this for more help.

I've noticed that if you open an image right after saving an image, that saved image automatically closes. Even though you can go to Open Recent to open it back up, it's bothersome.
Request: Do away with the automatic closing. Provide the user with a choice ( perhaps a dialog similar to the save before exit one) to close the recently saved image or to keep it open.

A quick way to do this is to use the "Fade" options in the Conditional Hue / Sat plugin.

Dingbats. Dingbats, I say!
The simplest and most effective way to achieve that look is to use dingbats.
