I don't know why, but my favorite part is the border. It's so cool! I've been trying to do them like that lately.
I agree. The border is A+ primo.
Thanks, guys!
I dunno, I rather liked the beveled edge of your submitted one, BuzzKill. It gave it more of the placard feel you seemed to be going for. Perhaps a slimmer one instead of completely removing it?I originally had it thinner but for some reason I ended up making it more prominent. Thinner is better.
(I also added some posts holding the glass to the wood.)Thank you. I trust you also corrected my misspelling of the word: rivets

^ The drop shadow is a little heavy... other than that, I like 'em!
I correct it, now it is better?
Thanks all
I think it could be a little lighter. With drop shadows, you want them visible so that they convey depth, but not so dark that they overpower the edge(s) of the image. That's how I look at it anyway...

Noticing errors/defects...
Much like CMD, soon after submitting my entry, I noticed some things I didn't like. The beveled edge and drop shadow, particularly. After going back and correcting the issues I didn't like, I came away with this:
Not only is it sleeker, it allows more of the detail in the wood to be seen
Looking back, I wonder if "Jerpimp", as apposed to "Pimpbert", would have been a better play on names...

I'm excited about the turnout in this contest. Even janettsue got in on the action - woot! Then there's the rise in everybody's artistic/skill level  What's not to get excited about that
Good luck to all the entrants!

As for an answer to your question, NO, there isn't a way to lock the corners of a selection.

...on this page...
Talk about a blast from the past.
Here is a page with a little more info on the subject. (not to mention it's up-to-date )

Being that both search options I provided you are currently not working as they should, here is a link to a tutorial I think will help you out.

^ Cool.

I really need to rewrite this tutorial so that it'll be up-to-date with PDN. (it's 17 months old )

Use the color picker tool :ColorPicker: to select your transparent color as the primary color. Then add it to the palette.

If your text is on it's own layer, I'd suggest using the Roll / Rotate feature just as Mr. Frojo described. It will yield nicer results than using the other method described here. You can find this feature in the Rotate / Zoom dialog (Ctrl+Shift+Z) or Layers > Rotate / Zoom).

Cool. Congratulations, Sozo, my co-victor! I call dibs on the left-half of the trophey

There are a couple of tutorials on this in, you guessed it, the Tutorials Section. If you'd have a look around in there, I bet you'll find what you're looking for. You can also do a search using the built-in forum search or by using searchpaint.net.

While not 100% pdn, I did edit it in pdn. And remember, I'm still new, and trying to learn the ropes.
Here it is:
I like it! One thing you may want to improve on are the edges of the overlay.
Here's a quick example:
I copied the overlay (flag) onto a new layer, added a blurred black ellipse under the overlay, applied a radial transparent gradient to the overlay, switched the overlay to "difference", and duplicated it.

This is not a bug. The marquee (dotted lines) is there to show you the boundry of the slection, on canvas or off canvas.

Nice picture, btw!

You're welcome.
However, adding the "th_" does not make it clickable. Inorder to link to the full size image, you'd have to:

Add "th_" (without the quotes) in front of the file name.

Have you looked here? It's a tutorial for "antiquing". I know, it's not exactly what you're looking for but I'm sure you can get some ideas from it.

Why must you tease us, bb00?

Jezulkim and trippdoctor - Awsome images!

I'd vote for Jerbert.
You're the current champion, CMD. It's your call.
How do I print the actual size of the image I created?

After utilizing http://searchpaint.net, I was presented with these results.
The answer you seek lies within, grasshopper
