  1. thank you sir, as if by magic the nik collection is available once again. and i do thank you the way you explained what to do. simply perfect. have a nice night (here in belgium it is 22:55h pm). kindest regards, john
  2. sorry to bother you once more rick, but i cannot find a link to download PSFilterPDN.dll V1.0.8.2. i hardly understand the complicated computer language and can only do that, what is simply laid out (like painting by numbers). also the advanced recoloring tool - advcolorrep.dll - is not working as it should anymore (distorted colors). i appreciate your patience. john
  3. hello, i just updated to paint.net 4.3. in the effect column now the 8bf filter is missing although nothing has changed and i used nik collection for ever. everything is still on its propper place - PSFilterShim.exe / PSFilterPdn.dll - as it always was. so no 8bf filter and thus no nik collection. what can i do (not a computer genius). kind regards, john
  4. thanks to all for your kind efforts. things are much clearer to me now. as i have been helped that much already, would it be impolite of me to ask you if you maybe could describe the difference between AA's Assistant and Basic Antialias? i downloaded them both and still cannot figure it out, when one is preferable to the other. the text provided to AA's Assistant still is a bit like chinese to me: "this is plugin to soften the edges and to adjust alpha. - ? you can use it to soften the edges. - okit is more effective when you use it after basic antialias. - okwhen you are unchecking soften the edges, you can adjust alpha without curves+. - ???for example , when you use it after feather, you can fine-tune alpha. - ???" it is not neccesary that i have to understand all this, but it would be nice to know when to use wahqt (and maybe why). i hope that one day, i will be able to give some explenation to others who will be new and uncertain in the future. and if so, it will be partly thanks to the support i experienced. kind regards, john
  5. addendum: the smoothness was what i was looking for, not the jagged edges.
  6. yes indeed, that what i ment were both plugins. as i am new here, i really do appreciate your answers. what i did (and do) not understand was following: "alias is designed to destroy antialiasing before running the amazing plugin, feather." feather i now know what it is, but the part above is a mystery to me. the pictures were a great help to understand some basics. it could be not more simple, yet not more clear to understand. thanks.
  7. hello, are alias and basic antialias the same feature? and if yes, which one should i use? thanks, john.
  8. hello, thank you for responding and taking intrest in beginners questios and issues. what i meant is (not good in english, not good with computer and new to paint.net), when i hoover over a plug-in, a pop-up balloon (or is it balloon tip) with lots of information which often gets in the way (plugin - author - copyright - http and also location). firstly as i am trying different things out as to what they can do, these square things keep popping up one after another as soon as i hoover over the "button" (for instance curves+...) . as i have a particular health issue, this "popping-up" is very disturbing to me (one even could describe it as a form of pain) and that is othe reason that i deactivated these tooltips etc. in windows 10, where ever possible. i know that i am looking at the "curves+..."button, i even remember from whom i downloaded it, and copyright and location i could check elswhere if i would feel like it, so i cannot see the benefit of this sort of information. thus this feature only causes (in my case) some sort of unpleasantness due to my condition. my question was - as it does not contain any sort of useful information - if there is an option within paint to deactivate these pop-ups or balloon tips or how it would be called. and secondly these rather big "square windows" sometimes are in the way when i want to press the button, so i have to move my mouse away and then again have to go to the same feature once more. i tried to give a better description this time and remain grateful for all your helpfulness. with kind regards, john
  9. hello, i am new here and do have a question. i installed paint.net, but each time i want to change something in the picture, a balloon info or pop-up appears which is rather annoying as it sometimes even covers the button i would like to activate. it shows plugin, author, copyright and more things. is it possible to deactivate these info balloons? i have windows 10 and all of the balloon tips are deactivated, so i guess it must be within the paint.net program. thank you for a response and i hope i have choosen the right place to post this question. kind regards, john
