  1. Re: LWChris explanation: Well consider this: just because you can explain it, define it and relate it, doesn't make it a good idea or name. I still think it's a terrible name for a product, but to give us some perspective consider these two gems from World-Class Marketing Powerhouses : Pepsi's slogan "Pepsi Brings You Back to Life" was debuted in China as "Pepsi Brings You Back from the Grave." Coca-Cola's brand name, when first marketed in China, was sometimes translated as "Bite The Wax Tadpole." So I guess the name won't kill your chances...however, note that in each case they re-named again!
  2. Doesn't it work that the extention selected to save as determines presence or absence of layers? Just save as "samefilename"+b!
  3. I thought it was just being pinned to the toolbar that made it not launch, but now every start it just hangs up then fails to run. I've installed the new version twice now, same result. W10 pro 64 bit. Any thoughts? Thanks. see my post below for details - it was actually a failing HDD.
  4. Well, I uninstalled it completely and rebooted and DLd and re-installed, and so far it launches ok from the taskbar. So no insights into why it behaved like that.
  5. well obviously not. Since I never heard this stuff, and I asked a friend and they hadn't, I guess one needs to know quite a deal more than you assume. Thanks.
  6. I have always had PDN pinned to the taskbar. It won't launch from there now. I unpinned it. I restarted. I repinned it. It still won't launch. W10 pro 64bit- any thoughts?
  7. That is the page where i got the pdf. It was not linked. You don't get it. There is a helter-skelter shotgun approach to these things. Offering links in forums is an inferior way to do it; it is confusing, time-consuming, frustrating way to do business. I get the whole community idea thing, but too many choice, too much info spread over too many areas. It's all in messages, and then quoted messages and then, more. So thanks for the left-handed info mr gameroftheyear; not helpful, but indicative of how an outsider's opinions are received here. Merry Xmas.
  8. p.s. When I was doing Internet marketing, Google offered me the ability to display my product ads directly opposite any search that contained my product's keywords; if they still do that it's something to consider; the cost was small then, but then also we made a profit on sales, so it wais a different animal. Having a legitimate ad appear with the search was a way to insure customers would go to our site, and not competitors, and since the links were the same, it validated the link.
  9. I'd like to point out a small point in that the name "paint.net" sounds FAKE! Who names a product with a DOT in it? I know too late now, but really an interesting marketing decision in my opinion; it makes a cautious person encountering the name for the first time to think "scam?" I'm the type of person who wants to go to a real-looking website that offers a direct hyperlink to the file, period; not get it through several links to other links, or off Softonic, or cnet, etc. So there is a mentality that sees a link that looks direct, that works fast and still is NOT real and people will still click through. Smartphones have not helped, as people's thumbs are faster than people's brains. If I recommend the program, and I do all the time, I send them to http://www.dotpdn.com/downloads/pdn.html please tell me that's the real deal; it's the first result of a basic Google search. Thanks.
  10. I DL'd the pdf version of the plug-in list; saw one I was interested in, Ahmed's Plug-ins, and returned to the forum and searched "ahmed" = no results. "Ahmed" however returned the correct result, but only well after I looked for the entry "by hand", scrolling through numerous posts; only when I had found it by that method, did it occur to me to try the capital A in the search. In my opinion, "ahmed" is a superior search than "Ahmed", as it would return the results wanted, capitalized or not. I'm curious if this came up for others when they searched. The reason I ask is your plug-ins are kind of 'hidden', in that they are not on a page or in a hyperlink listing, they are each buried in a post. I understand that is the way you set it up, and I get that the authors can then have control, input and feedback, but it ain't easy to use that way, in my opinion. I'd rather also see a hyperlink text page listing simply organized and scroll-able, searchable. Just a thought. Thanks.
  11. Thanks for comment; mind telling me why you WANT a pop-up window in the way of the very thing you are altering? I cannot think of a single reason you would, and would appreciate the insight. I select the effect and then move it off, always; how else can you see you results, especially if you do not know what settings will work this time. I wonder each time I start why the tools snap to the side but nothing else does! Thanks.
  12. I have trouble getting the selected area to behave; too high a percentage too much is selected; too little and the area frequently contains hundreds of tiny exceptions. When I try to lasso them to include in the selected area, the program grinds to a halt and then does not draw the selection as I desired, it seems to ignore multiple mouse positions, then it is terribly slow in redisplaying the resultant selection. How can I better control this? I have really good system AMD FX-832 8-core,3.5 GHzCPU, 20GB DDR3, nVidia 970 Ti, and lots of storage running on W10 pro 64bit, so I don't think it is a hardware issue. Is this just the way the tools behave? I often work with images that are not sharply in focus, or with precisely defined edges, and often the work areas are multi-colored areas, so I understand the hundreds of little exceptions in the selected area, but clearing them up and controlling the selection is a problem. Thanks.
  13. Well, couldn't a simple override snap all windows to the border? Just a thought. Thanks for the great explanation - much, much better than just nope! I do appreciate all the effort put into this program, and if I could I'd support it; hard to do at 70, alone on SS - for instance my monthly food benefit is $76... so I spend a lot of time on the PC drawing things like big meals, warm rooms, and nice clothes! Happy Holidays! If you have a sec, I just installed the update, but can't find where the update notes are - what happened in this update? Thanks again.
