History steps allowed

Recommended Posts

The paint.net website states that the History has an unlimited amount of undo's or is limited only by the amount of memory/disk space of the computer. Since my computer has 1T of hard disk (with 95% available) and 4000 RAM (which I assume has nothing to do with this), I'm wondering why I my History DOES have a limited number of undo's?? I've never counted them, mind you, but I was recently trying to go waaaaay back in a project and didn't know about the UNDO ALL at the time (I know now!) and it stopped undoing the steps at a certain point and the UNDO and UNDO ALLl options went gray.

This wasn't some big project with multiple layers and all that - didn't even have any layers - probably not more than 100 steps in the whole thing - really small (least I think so).

I've looked for, but couldn't locate, any place to adjust the amount of space the history is allowed to use so I'm assuming that's not it.

Any ideas?? Please tell me this is something stupid I am doing - I'd much rather it be that than something that nobody can figure out!!

Thank you, thank you!!!

I honestly don't know. I've never had a problem with this. I've single-stepped back through an entire (350+ steps) file before.

The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. The most feared being in all the cosmos. And nothing could stop it, or hold it, or reason with it. One day it would just drop out of the sky and tear down your world.
Amy: But how did it end up in there?
The Doctor: You know fairy tales. A good wizard tricked it.
River Song: I hate good wizards in fairy tales; they always turn out to be him.

If you save an image and then reopen it then your history for what you done is gone. But if you been working on the image and saving with out closing Paint.NET or the image then you should only be limited by your computer.

I know my main computer has never had a problem with this and it has 500 and 150 GB's of hard drive space and 2 GB of RAM.

  • 2 weeks later...

Wanted to let ya'll know that my History is working fine now....??? Just one of those weird things, I guess. I've been using Paint.Net daily since I found it and the History thingie was always a problem until yesterday....it suddenly behaved normally and has been ever since. I've said it before, I'll say it again....Computers get PMS.

Anyhow, thank you for the input!
