Clone Stamp Tool: Changing Shape, Movement, Magicwand?

Recommended Posts

I've been googling with no success; I was wondering about a few things concerning the clone stamp:

1) Is there a way to change the shape of the stamp zone from a circle to a square etc?

---This seems like a no-brainer option to have...

2) Is it possible to have an anchor function that would hold the stamp position, so that I could use that exact pattern to fill/cover up other sections?

---*same thoughts as above*

3) Has anyone ever thought about adding a function that would enable you to outline your own shape that you want to clone, then select an area of interest, which would thus be copied and then fill the area you've outlined?

---Many a time I would simply like to select an area that I want filled, then clone stamp a pattern (etc.) and just have it auto fill that whole outline Vs constant clicks and moving etc...

This is one of the most useful tools this program offers, seems like it's being over-looked for all the advanced ways/features that would enable it to be even more useful. I find that most of my time and others I know, is simply wanting to cover up or fill voids in photos, but doing this isn't as simple as; outline, clone, fill... DONE.

Thank you for any suggestions. :)

1. No this isn't possible within Paint.NET. You say it's a "no-brainer option", and I would have to disagree otherwise Custom Brushes would have already been implemented into Paint.NET.

2. Not right now, no. Again, you say this is a "no-brainer", but I'm not too sure.

3. I'm not really too sure what is meant by this one, a fuller explanation would help.

Hope this goes some way towards an explanation.

About #1: I wasn't intending to offend or snap... I just meant that it seems like an obvious option that people would like to have.

#3: I meant like you can make a selection-outline with the magic wand, BUT this would be afforded to the clone-stamp tool, in which you could outline any shape you wanted to clone, and then paste it exactly as shaped.

EX: Say I wanted to fill a blank triangle with a pattern that I intend to clone; but since the shape of the clone tool is a circle, it means that some of the patterning isn't going to match up. I was thinking that there could be some kind of clone-Lasso that you could outline any shape and then paste that exact pattern. So if I need to fill up a triangle, I lasso a triangular shape to better match Vs the default circle... I hope that makes better sense?

Also when trying to fill shapes and areas that aren't circular, a very (to me) noticeable, overlapping pattern presents itself. This makes blending multiple, non-circular areas, much more complicated since the patterns will not blend as easily as if you were using a similar shape, which would make blending ascend/descending (horizontal and vertical) much easier since the circular-clone-pattern doesn't match the linear lines of said rectangular shapes etc.

I hope this makes better sense? And again I think is this one of the best programs for picture editing and manipulation... oh and it's FREE! AMAZING! *Thumbs UP*

To answer your question for number two. To anchor where you want to draw, simply press ctrl and then click the spot on the image. Hopefully this will help you.
