Old school enlarger emulation

Go to solution Solved by Welsh Yellow Cheddar,

In the bad old days before digital I'd typically load up a negative, choose a paper size (I'd generally want 1280x720), and then adjust the enlarger and paper frame position for "zoom", "pan", and "rotation". I have yet to figure out how to do this basic workflow simply in any photo editor? I'm trying to use a simple point'n'shoot 18mp camera that has no optical zoom - ignoring the digital zoom and doing that in post.

I have used Paint.net quite a lot for other operations.

Thanks!

Ron

Hello @RoadRanger,

I would start by creating a New canvas with the dimensions needed: File > New...

Then Open the image you need to edit: File > Open...

Select the entire image and Copy it to the Clipboard: Ctrl+a, Ctrl+c

Go back to the canvas you first created and Paste the image stored in the Clipboard: Ctrl+v

If the image is smaller than your canvas you are ready to do all editing.

If the image pasted is larger than your canvas a window will open and tell you what you want to do. At this point you need to select the Keep canvas size. You can now do all the editing you need (zoom, pan, rotate, ...).

That"s how I do it. I hope this helps.
